I have seen legit soulless, socially inept dysfunctional types groove in public hard to the first Redman album. He do be saying some shyt that looks goofy if held up in the light though.

"if rap were Bball i'd have assists like James Worthy"

i mean, James has assists, sure. But Magic had a lot more. And what does having assists in rap even mean?

All in all Red was a huge part of my adolescence and I have love for him. I hope he isn't gay.

Also, Redman's money cuts are REALLY MONEY.

Literally every rapper has a ton of lines that really aren't logical when held up to scrutiny.

That line makes perfect sense though. I've seen Walt call out that line before too, but I don't see what's wrong with it. I assume he used James Worthy because Magic was just too obvious a punch

Redman has 3 classic/near classic albums. Not sure why some of you are saying he's only got few good jams :mjpls:

Redman is the first rapper to introduce doctor persona in his skits and first to have double persona in his raps (Reggie/Redman) which later Eminem and Tyler both jacked for their shyt, many of casual fans don't know that. Everyone on some double personality shyt, but Redman birthed that (well along with Kool Keith but that nikka was on some other shyt anyway).

Also one of the best punchline rappers, one of the few acts in music who had first three albums all considered very fukking good. Your favorite rapper doesn't have better discography than Redman based solely on his first three albums. Name me a a rapper/group with all three first projects at Redman's albums level. Only Outkast and KRS-One come to mind. Maybe Cypress Hill as well, they got 4 very good records in a row.

He put on and and/orgot shine for half of Def Jam. Hurricane G, Keith... Lady Luck. Gov-matic. Redman was getting dudes chances. Saukratees... Outsidaz. He took Meth under his wing.
He was influential in vouching for both Eminem AND Canibus when people were concerned about whether 'underground' rappers could work or sell.
He vouched for Em to Dre (Em is from Outsidaz who are out of Jersey), and he also knew Canibus way before anyone mainstream did. He co-signed him when LL's A&R wanted to put Bis on 4-3-2-1 and LL didn't even know who he was.
He's also the reason Rah Digga is in the De La Soul vid with DeLa/Redman (she don't even rap in it) they weren't up on her like that, but he knew her and eventually she ended up with Busta on Flipmode but she is originally from Outsidaz in Jersey, same as Eminem. "Outsidaz and we suing the courts... cause we dope as fukk and only get a 2 in the source"

So like you said, Magic has more assists... but Magic gets credit for his passing. James Worthy has mad assists too and gets no credit.
If rap were B-ball... Red has assists like James Worthy

Thats why when you ask Eminem his top ten it goes "Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie, Andrea from Outcast, Jada, Kurrupt, Nas" and then himself... but don't sleep. That Reggie is Reggie Noble aka Redman. #1 on Eminem's list.
Red is your favorite rapper's favorite rapper, literally, for alot of people.

Maybe Redman is just a loud, overrated homosexual too, though? DAMN YOU @Walt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Red maybe is just off.....a little. Strange fun fact. I always assumed Red was a rather large fellow. I bumped into him (literally) going to a gym in Shaolin and he was significantly smaller than me. Kinda effed me up a tad. Sticky Fingaz too. My body moved his punk body. I used to think rappers were superheros. Turns out they just small nikkas with a gang of lip.

To me I always thought Redman and his cousin Tame One were basically the same rapper. Same subject matters (More grafitti then weed smoking for Tame but still), flows, wordplay...

Every rapper I've met in life was way smaller than I imagined when I was a youngin. In height and weight. Except Jay-Z

I saw Rakim and person and wanted to buy him a sandwich he looked damn near anorexic

:yeshrug: I never was a fan of his style either, or anybody close to his style(em, Tyler, busta)

The joke/animated rap does nothing for me

You should listen to early Redman. He was way more street orientated and way less animated. Red was the first rapper I saw shoot videos in the hood, nikkas with guns and all of that. He wasn't no funny type rapper when he first came out.

I quoted this post to draw attention to a criticism that seems to be recurring in this thread: Redman isn't saying anything. The truth of the matter is a lot of that disconnect comes from his age. If you didn't know, Red is in his 40's so some of the stuff he's spittin' won't resonate with a listener unless they are in his age-group. Since I am, I can point-out a couple things in this track that some of you will miss. For instance, the reference to the 'two 'White' girls from Magic Garden' is from a 70's kid's show of the same name. The two girls were named Carol and Paula. The first rhyme starts with a reference from an 80's NyQuil commercial. The part where he talks about running up the phone bill is from an early 80's game show that came on Channel 11 when it was known as WPIX in New York/New Jersey........

As was stated earlier, Red is 'witty' but his vernacular leads some people to assume he's not intelligent. That couldn't be further from the truth. He wouldn't be in the game as long as he has if that were the case.

I saw Rakim in the most bugged spot. Was too in awe of the God to do anything but stare. But yeah, that Tame shyt is crazy. Back when the Artifacts were out id have told you Red > Tame all day. Now that I'm elderly and wise, Tame would roast Redman.

Tame taught Red how to rhyme. That's why they sound alike. Then again, that's also because they're from the same general area. Rakim has ALWAYS been that size. He used to go out with a girl in my High School back when 'My Melody' was new.

I saw a post prime Evil Dee, like 1997-ish when the glutton had set in, now mind you, I'm a Beatminerz stan, but the joke was too ripe, I yelled "The fukk you do, swallow Buckshot???". He was none too amused.
