I know he was 2nd in command. And it's Barksdale family. But still did you ever feel like Avon was ever the boss of Bell? At the very least it felt like co-leaders. AM I wrong?

In season 1 i never really felt like that, but then on the final episode of Season 2 Avon sonned the shyt out of Stringer
"This aint about your motherfukkin business classes either String, the street is the street.......Always :birdman:"

And Then in Season 3 you fully understood that Avon was the boss when he got out of jail. He basically pushed String out of all the street side of the operation and replaced him with Slim Charles as second in command. nikka was sonning Stringer ruthlessly in season 3

To put it into business terms Avon was the owner while Stringer was the manager. That's how everyone on the street saw it. Like in the chess scene, when D'Angelo talked about the King, Bodie said it reminded him of Avon, and when he talked about the Queen, Bodie said it reminded him of Stringer.

Stringer had a great degree of authority and had his own great reputation on the street(look at the way Marlo's crew reacted after he was killed), but ultimately all of Stringer's power came from Avon. By the end of S3 as Avon was beginning to phase Stringer out in favor of Slim Charles, you could see Stringer's authority diminish.

My nikka String was just trying to use his business skills he learned at community college. :to:
the thing is, he didnt LEARN all those skills at community college.

he already had a certain set of skills (no liam neeson)

dude just wanted to refine the skill set he already had in place. even avon says that string was right about the corners.

It's obvious Stringer was a sharp guy but I think the college shyt was more about him having a sort of insecurity about his intellect and about him being a hood guy. Sort of like Gyp Rosetti, but tamer.

Like the way he was yelling at his employees about having an inelastic product. What's the point of spouting macroeconomics to lazy bums?:heh:

Avon was not book smart and an anti-intellectual, but he was cunning and he knew how to read people better than Stringer. And he read Stringer perfectly when he called him "a man without a country". Stringer felt he was above the ghetto bullshyt and the people in the game, but at the same time he was insecure about belonging among the 'high society' types he was hobnobbing with. And that was his downfall.

first off, please believe these dudes were clocking MILLS of the drug game.

as far as million dollar legal business, that would be YEARS off. you just want enough straight money to hide the illegal money.

Thing is, thats the only thing Avon ever knew what or how to do. He was raised in the game by his family so he was content to either go to jail or die protecting his corners. Which is why he told Stringer that he was surprised he lasted as long as he did and also why he let Cutty leave the game without no beef because he respected his decision to go and try to do something else with his life.
"So what you gonna do? You don't know shyt else?!?! :why:"

Stringer was about to gentrify Baltimore bruh, they would've been BILLIONAIRES.

There was no reason to be in street battles with Marlo like that. Avon just had low expectations for his life
