Really not concerned about separation issues with Mims because he's a dog and easily one of the best contested catch receivers from this loaded class. Give him the 1 on 1 looks our WRs got last year and he's gonna go up and get that bytch.
See, that’s the thing. I don’t want guys who produce off contested catches. I want guys who get wide open so that they don’t have to make contested catches. Contested catches are nice, but separation is what makes the most productive receivers in the modern NFL. Michael Thomas, Amari Cooper, Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs, etc.
That’s my question with Mims (and I'm genuinely asking here): has he, throughout his college career, shown himself as a guy who can reliably create separation at the next level? If not, then I don’t want him. Not when there are guys like Aiyuk who regularly managed to separate from defenders at the college level who can realistically be available at #21.
dont think the receiver situation is as bad as most people think. We need a speedster on the outside that is for sure. Cant depend on D Jax at this point.
Our receiving situation is abysmal, and that’s not hyperbole. We have four proven pass-catchers on the team – DJax, Ertz, Goedert, and Sanders. That’s one 33-year old receiver, two tight ends, and a running back. Behind them is a declining WR1 coming off a Lisfranc injury in Alshon, a 2nd-year receiver in JJAW who was losing snaps to Rob Davis and Deontay Burnett, and a practice squad receiver in Ward. That’s unacceptable. This is a passing league and the Eagles have one decent wideout who’s at the tail-end of his career.
This is how I feel.
I would much rather get a linebacker and take a chance on someone like Hamler, claypool or whoever after the 1st
I could see spending a 1st on a falling elite CB prospect or a D-Lineman if they’re really the best player available, but linebacker? It’s the least important position on the entire team. Meanwhile, our best pass-catchers are a receiver with maybe two more years left in the league, two tight ends, and a running back. I'd take whoever the best receiving prospect is at #21 and #53 before I even considered drafting any LB.
