Cast iron skillet, kerrygold butter, fresh garlic, and thyme. Season with black pepper n sea salt. Thats how I make my ribeyes

thats really all you need. You gotta have that coarse kosher salt. I sear mine for a minute or so on each side and throw it in the oven for a few minutes. It took me a while to get it right. The first time, it looked like the OP’s. The next time it was way undercooked and had to go back in the oven. It got better after that

Yea you have to be on point when throwing it in the oven,I overcooked my steak once doing that

Do you keep it oiled when you store it. Cast iron should always be coated with oil even when not in use.

Sounds like you putting a lot of butter in the cast iron before you put the steak in. Butter has a low smoke point, doesn’t take much for your butter to turn a whole new color and burn and smoke up the kitchen. What I do is I add a table spoon of vegetable oil along with a half stick of butter and put the steak I right away, then you can add more butter and baste once the steak is in. After about 2 and half minutes I flip once and and finish off in a 400 degree oven.

I try to aim for 2 inch steaks If possible, and like one of the homies said a meat thermometer is a MUST! anything past medium is a no go. I don’t do rare tho but medium rare is to medium is goat!
