Yeah, the league shouldn’t even exist if we’re being honest... the interest simply isn’t there...its like a worker that is at risk of being laid off demanding a raise ... I assume the G-League operates at a loss too, and the average salary is like Amazon worker wages..maybe there are some tax write off finessing that could be done where salary increases could be further subsidized

They need to put a radical person in charge of that league with some vision and some edge to shake things up and make some changes that will result in more viewership.

You cant just market the WNBA then same way you try to market the NBA, its just not gonna work.

Women's college ball is more popular than the pros... that means the league simply isnt being marketed properly point blank.

Cuz If they REALLY wanna make more bread, someone's gotta make a decision. Do they want to continue being some non-profit girlpower league that serves as a social emblem, or do they want MONEY? Because there are a number of quick and easy ways to increase viewership that would likely be deemed controversial in today's climate to say the least....

If women's College basketball is more popular than the WNBA than you have an issue. I always look at women's tennis as the model for success. Serena and Naomi get paaaaaaid.

With that said Dray is partially wrong here. The USWNT is already in a court battle with US Soccer

You can't compare Womens college basketball to the WNBA. They have 2 entirely different markets. The colleges/students themselves are the market and are engaged in that game. College sports in general are geared towards the students, alumni, then the boosters/Vegas.

I also understand for women to not want to have to travel overseas to play professionally, when they have a capable professional league here. The NBA did try everything to generate more revenue for the WNBA, including sponsorships, ads on courts & jerseys...however, they are still doing a shytty job of promoting it.

They have to do more cross promotion - more commercials & ads, promos with both leagues. They have to involve the WNBA more during All-Star Weekend (the shooting drills, the 3-on-3s etc). They have to push their superstars - get them back into movies/TV shows.

For those saying they need to shut the league down, they can do the same with the G-League. They also operate at a loss, and I serious doubt they bring in any revenue.

The G League feeds into the whole NBA system itself though. The WNBA is low key a charity project.

Promoting the WNBA may not be the issue. Maybe y’all should just accept that the public doesn’t give a fukk about women’s professional basketball. You can’t make people care about shyt they don’t care about.

Why should NBA players have to do this?
:camby:
I know equality is real important these days, but business is business. The WNBA is not a public school or a government funded organization. It is a business that has not turned a profit since it’s inaugural season in 1997.

What if you owned a business that hasn’t turned a profit in 24 years and your employees came in talking bout they deserve a raise equal to the employees at another business that’s been booming? What would you tell them?

Honestly, I didn’t know they were making $100,000. I know they used to make $50,000. So it has come up some. I kind of understand the complaint, but I don’t understand it. Do they not see all those empty seats in the stadiums when they play?

Overpaid based on what??

Teams have to spend a minimum on payroll each year. And while everyone would like to sign a Kevin Durant type talent, there is only one Kevin Durant. But they still have to spend, so teams end up overpaying for players just to spend money.

The Knicks overpaid for Tim Hardaway Jr. (4 years $71 million). It was a bad contract, and bad contract is a term I know you've heard before.

Your points are short sited. The NBA forces the WNBA to play during the summer so they won't conflict with there season. The problem with that, is you're forcing them to compete with MLB, and MLS.

In addition, their schedule isn't aligned with the Women's Euro league, which forces top euro players to leave their teams in the U.S. to compete with their home countries. And the U.S. doesn't compete at all. If the WNBA aligned their season with Europe, they could compete at the same time. This will eventually cause top Euro league players from coming to play in the WNBA altogether.

This is the correct answer. The WNBA needs to focus on getting elite talent to the league sooner, it would have a massive effect on the talent pool and overall excitement of the game.

"elite" talent isn't the problem. You can have all the talent in the world, but if nobody's watching, what difference does it make.

And that UConn player is nice, but many have come before her.
