The narrative and the structure of open world games always have a huge disconnect that makes 0 sense in the context of the world.

Its a huge glaring flaw in the way theyre designed.

The worlds about to end they need my help urgently :ohhh:

But first let me collect 250 orbs and help a bartender collect some fur. shyt is downright stupid.:mjlol:

I rarely finish WRPG games because the stories are so lax. They more or less feel like the excuse for exploring an open world rather than the driving force behind the game.

The story feels more like an overarching premise or theme for conversations then anything else. This is why I mentioned....

Conclusion::whoo:
WRPG's feel like they give you a world in a particular state, while other games feel like they give you a world in a particular state ...that's also under some process.
I don't want the world to feel like it's waiting in stasis for me to poke around in it. If you have no imagination and don't care for stealing a pair of rusty scissors from a random NPC then I can see those games being mad boring.

There are poor to non existent "narrative glue" or maybe i could say "narrative arcs" that bind fights, events, and conversations together. :jbhmm:

That's why I'm not getting the Mass Effect hate in here. It's one thing to knock Bethesda but Bioware's RPGs aren't really open world just more based on choice. Andromeda of course is gonna be open world but nobody has played it yet.
Yeah I'm kidding besides Mass Effect I'm not too invested into WRPGS usually. The open world thing doesnt do anything for me.

The last game in the series burned a lot of bridges.

That's the thing, even if you're told to "hurry before the x kills the world" ultimately, unless you're on a timer (FF13-3 and Majora's Mask) its not gonna feel like you need to rush anything. That's where good writing comes in. In the Witcher 2 and 3, I was compelled to get the story over with, due to how enthralled I was. The same thing with Mass Effect 1, while I did enjoy the sidequests and planet exploration, I wanted to see what Saren was up to, and how I could stop the son of a bytch.

Now when there happens to be bad writing(FF13 series) you end up not even caring about the main character. You're stuck in a nexus of "I don't care" and everything you do is meaningless because you aren't following the story. JRPG's have had this issue for a while now. FF9's story was completely null and void for me, as I didn't care for the main character(s). The same thing with happened with Suikoden 4, not only was I tired of the franchise, the story wasn't as compelling as the previous games. Xenosaga was another series that I just couldn't stomach, it was up its own ass every cutscene (to which there are like 1000).

Its all about story and pacing (as if that hasn't been said enough) but a fun story can be rushed and still appreciated (Zone of the Enders).
