Lol I'm just being honest Raul. You probably don't identify as black do you? Hell you can't even pass for black. You're probably 1/16th at best anyway so what I'm saying doesn't apply to you. It is what it is man. I'm not really focused on those who don't identify with the black struggle or think they're not black. That's fine. I'm not here to shame people into being black. I got too much pride for that.
:manny:

I just think you could have 2 black people in front of you and you'd be fine with both...until you found out 1 was Dominican and 1 was Haitian...then you'd choose

The first pick of the 2015 nba draft Karl Anthony Towns is Dominican

:blessed: Domincans
I actually didn't know that.

:ehh:

I never really followed Towns that much.
Father is American and mom is Dominican

And probably no casual basketball fan in the country is aware that Towns is Dominican either.

I guess that does go to show you that no matter what your nationality or cultural background, you're still seen as "black" in America

Makes some good points about Dominicans in the U.S. not necessarily denying they are black, but just making a distinction as Dominican people. That's kind of understandable.

They saying their is about to be a huge influx of Puerto Ricans to the mainland cause of the economy.

However, some of his history is off.......Tainos were supposedly mostly decimated. Indigenous Native Americans could be very dark when the Europeans first arrived.

There are areas where people of Taino descent still live in DR.
And Taino culture and art is widely available in certain parts.

I grew up in Miami and a lot of the Dominicans do not like to call themselves black because of the negative stereotypes associated with being black. A lot of them act as if they are above Haitians. A lot of them like saying they are not black, but will be more than happy to claim their non black heritage. You also have to understand that their history is white washed and they more praise to their European history.
