Nah I was only 15 or so at the time. That place was so authentically Hip Hop that it intimidated me slightly even though the people were all cool. i wish i could have seen those Friday night sessions though. that sounds crazy.

It was a crazy time for sure. It was a really welcoming place as well. There were very few pretentious folks who stuck around.

There were so many stories I didn't even get to. There was the time I interviewed Little Brother in Camden and then went to the store, jumped in the cypher and they walked in while I was rhyming. They did an impromptu instore and halfway through the set Phonte points at me like ":dwillhuh:This nikka just interviewed us and know he's out here rhyming like *breaks into comedy English accent* too? :dahell:"

It was a place where cats who are really out there doing it, rubbed shoulders with regular cats who happened to rhyme and were fans. It was definitely a high water mark for Black British music in the 00's.

So many great nights. Went to the last instore they held there. It ended with a conga line out of the door to this:

Alright, I used to work in a raw juice bar in Chicago. Common comes in to get some juice and a raw salad, and he's kinda talking to the girl at the counter doing the smooth "yeah sister, we tryna bring that positivity back to the hood" shyt, tryna mack this concious chick. Next thing the homie from the back comes out on some "yo Common I'm a rapper too" shyt, then he's like "hold up" and throws his CD in the store stereo and is like "what you think?". Now the shyt was wack as fukk, the beat was some Casio sounding shyt and he had this old school ass flow tryna drop knowledge. Common was like "yeah yeah I hear ya, this that real Chicago style right here". I could tell he wasn't feelin it but he was nice about it. As he's leaving dude gave Common the CD, and he was like "thanks Joe, see ya round sis" and he bounced.
I don't know why, but this shyt had me dying :russ::lolbron:

Unsolved was my intro to Ball & G and one of my favorite verses of his to this day...Was mad as a youngsta that South Circle didn't do another one but my nikka Mr Mike never disappointed solo :myman:

Right Mr. Mike was underrated, both of his solos are dope, breh was a good singer too. He was on that phonte and drake duel threat shyt back in the mid 90's.

I got one...Some of the :hamster: crew might remember this. Me and my crew used to host a couple of hip hop nights at various Detroit bars. One night at one of our shows, the exact date was April 11th 2005 reason I know is because it was the day Blade Icewood was murdered. It's early in the night and we used to play pre-setup cd's and low and behold Proof and his Iron Fist records crew show up to the show :ehh: I'm going through various setups in the dj booth and eventually go to the bar and Fat Joe's My Four Four 50 cent diss starts to play from the cd. I notice that one of Proof's partners is close to the dj booth, TOO close so I walk back over and he starts talking crazy saying that 50 cent is their boy and somebody need to turn the song off :dwillhuh: So I say well it's just a mix cd and it will go off shortly. The nikka starts spazzing and saying that if somebody doesn't switch the song then he will :francis: Now I know I'm in the club with my crew who will hold me down over anything and I already know these dudes have a rep as well. I can't allow this nikka to put his hands on equipment that we responsible for with the club owners so I contemplate what the move should be. Dude is still motioning like he is going to go into the booth. None of my folks is observing the confrontation so I decide fukk this I'm going to kill this shyt and switch the song. So I go to the booth and go to the next song and not soon after that my partner Red(rip) comes and I tell him what went on and he is PISSED and wants to play the song AGAIN. I tell him it's not even worth it and let's just start the show. I open the show as the MC and I acknowledge proof who is basically just sitting at the bar with 2 white chicks buying beers for his crew. I then give a moment of silence for Blade. The night was real tense as more of my camp found out what had happened and everybody was pissed that these nikkas had the nerve to come to our show and think they could regulate. At the end of the night Red went to Proof and his boy and told him how he felt about the shyt and Proof pretty much apologized for his man's and they gave us about 10 free tickets for Proof's release party for his Jerry Garcia cd. We went and had a good time and actually kicked it with Proof for a while. We ended up being real close with the Iron Fist fam. That was the last time I actually spoke to Proof though and almost a year to the day of the incident on April 6 2006 Proof was murdered :mjcry: and 2 years after that his homie who was beefing over the diss track was killed. :wow:

Met Bambaata during a festival in Europe in the late nineties, I was stoked to meet one of my heroes and a important figure in hiphop to me.My man was cool with some of the promotors and we went to the hotel to chop it up.We arrive at his hotel room, and when we knocked on the door this 15 yr old latino kid opens the door, looks at us and walks back into the bathroom..meanwhile Bam is in the room watching tv.We say what up,I introduce myself and we sit down and start chopping it up about music and the festival which was an old school festival with mad old school legends on the bill. Now every two minutes or so,the young dude comes out of the bathroom, goes through his bags, packs Bam bags and goes back in the bathroom,by this time I'm looking at my man like, something feels off about this dude,he sees my puzzlement and tells me in our native language(patois) to chill.Bam goes into the bathroom and we hear him talking to the kid. They both come out of the bathroom and by their body language i could tell this kid is not just carrying records for Bam.I tell my man I want to break out cause the vibe was weird and Bam started watching these infomercials on Dutch tv,which is basically soft porn for phone sex ads.One of the other DJ's(can''t remember his name) comes in and looks at me and my friend like "the fukk ya'll doing here".I tell my man we are leaving right now,i say peace to Bam and i'm out.On the hallway the DJ says to me "I know you're probably thinking what that was all about with the kid in Bam's room right?
I say yes and dude proceeds to teel me that Bam likes to fukk young boys and it's not really a secret within NY hip hop circles that a couple of old school DJ's had kids "carry their records" while getting piped down on some DL shyt.....needless to say, meeting your heroes is not something I want to do anymore...fukked me up for real...true story

ok.. few more, but i gotta open the restaurant in a few hours:

- managed a boutique on Fairfax for about a year.. everyone would roll through.. already spoke on Lupe, but alot of folks would roll through because the owner was the old host of Headbangers Ball on MTV back in the day.. i lived off Fairfax, right up the street from Games studio, and side crib.. Game, is probably one of the coolest folks in the game.. real humble dude, but can go 0-100 real quick.. he wasnt some fake dude.. would just kick it on the block, like anyone else.. him, Chris Brown & Rhianna were regulars(she was aiight..bad attitude).. one time, her and Chris Brown rolled through.. she was stuck up, but actually took a photo for my homegirls daughter as long as i didnt publish/sell it.. anyways, we had the store sealed off.. paparazzi everywhere.. Chris Brown grabbed my skateboard.. without hesitation- did a kickflip.. :dwillhuh: that aint easy, unless you skate.. he told me him and Pharrell would play S-K-A-T-E backstage on the low.. sh!t blew my mind.. :mindblown: on some real sh!t- Chris Brown a real cool dude..
- speaking of Pharrell.. i did the "Rockstar" video.. was one of the main cats in it.. we were all skating on set-break, and this dude Pharrell decides he wants to challenge me in S-K-A-T-E- because at the time- he was fukkin Beyonce.. :heh: wiped him off the map real quick, and later Beyonce called me over to kick it/chat.. she was honestly, very cool.. she even asked to take a photo.. :wow: yea.. i still tell that story to my fam, and my parents have the photo framed.. video shoot was dope.. alot of cool folks on set, if you go back and peep..
- same store on Fairfax.. spoke in length with Everlast about sh!t.. mostly, about how he wrote ALOT of Snoops hit.. "Sexual Seduction" was one.. :mjpls:
- was at a Redman/EPMD/Lady of Rage show in Hollywood.. cats started swingin.. show was stopped.. saw Red, and he was throwin blows.. said fukk it, and started swinging with him.. not the smartest thing I've done, but made it out alive.. them LA dudes dont play.. they remind me of Fla. folks.. they get to swinging, and whatever goes.. gotta respect cats that throw hands.. :salute:

...

man.. i can contribute so much more, but i gotta work in a bit.. peace to @Big Skilly Films on the thread.. this a good one, fam..

until next time- :myman:yall be easy..

THE TIME I THOUGHT TRAGEDY WANTED TO FIGHT ME

now this story takes place before tragedy was called tragedy khadafi but was called tragedy the intelligent hoodlum...im on the train riding minding my own business listening to bdp's criminal minded album on my walkman...im sitting on the corner of the seat with the doors to my left and the 2 seater a lil bit over to my left...some guy is sitting there...then enters some guy with one of those hats the 5% er's wear...he walks in talking to himself and im doing my best impression to not pay attention so i play it off and lower the volume to hear what he saying...he just moving his hands around talking about some 5% stuff so i raise the volume and continue to mind my own business...then he starts getting animated with his hands i guess he the type who talks with his hands waving them around...while he talking he keeps looking at me hard then looks at the kid across from me too...so i lower my volume down to hear if he is addressing me or the other kid...he starts talking about he did a bid in jail and he aint no punk so im :comeon: he just came home and he on his war story mode...so i raise my volume back up and listen to "the p*ssy is free"...then the guy starts pointing at me looking at me then he looks at the guy in the 2 seater pointing and talking loud something to the effect like "i aint no punk" so at this point i got the grimace face (in ny you have to mean mug nikkas so they leave you the fukk alone) so i raise up and im like "whats up?" the whole time i guess i had a mean mug the guy tells me "my brother i been trying to talk to you cause you look like you want to kill someone but you wasnt paying attention to me" he keeping it real with me i guess the whole time im sitting there with a mean mug looking at him he thinking i want beef with him while im thinking the same thing...so while he talking to me i get a real good look at his face and im like :ooh: "aint you tragedy the intelligent hoodlum?" he smiled slapped my hand and said yeah he is...i think he was surprised i knew who he was (love my hiphop) i told him shyt i thought you was trying to vick my shyt cause in ny thats how nikkas rob you in the trains...they will talk out loud and test you and say "what size are those sneakers?"
