so far , this show is nowhere near The Wire, and is blashphemy for anyone to say so. granted i am two seasons in, and from metacritic scores, the show improves every season.

walter is not a likeable character. in spite of their crap, u still messed with Tony Soprano, Stringer, Avon, Marlo. you cannot like this goofy weirdo old head Walter. no swag, nothing.

Walters wife is a horrible written character. anybody who takes tv or film seriously know that the archetype of annoying highstrung wife is a horrible cliche at this point. I mean, there was no such character in The Wire who wasnt complex and nuanced.

the dude that plays Jesse deserves his Emmys. he is the most impressive so far.

Jesses drug girlfriend that had an overdose. they messed up there, they shpuld have had her character carry on like Adriana in The Sopranos. she was just coming outta her shell, and then in a cliched way had an overdose.

walters brother in law, the cop, is pure comedy, probably my favorite character.

oh yeah, his sister in law, just like his wife, a horiible written character. just another uptight wife.

a great and funny scene is wher at the end of one episode in season 2, they have old azz Walter eye fight some big azz mexican while they played TV On The Radio's DLZ. i wont lie it was a bad azz moment, but kinda silly since this old dude in real life would have been chin checked.

anyway, at this moment in time, i cannot put Breaking Bad ahead of The Wire, The Sopranos or Mad Men. its still a good show. I think it deserves its props, but season one was a 3.5 mic season, and season 2 was a 4. 25 mic season, a big improvement from the first, and i am expecting it to continue to improve. but on the eveidence so far, it is just a really interesting show. not close to GOAT status.

lol @ a Nobel Prize winning high school chemistry teacher supposed to have swag wtf

i dont think he has to have swag, but as a viewer i cannot root or even sympathise with dude. thats what i mean by swag. i am just watching dude do what he do, he is not a character i can say i enjoy watching. i dont like dude, at all. put it this way, i find his over the top miserable wife more sympathetic than him. and she is a cliche.

did i want stringer to die, did i want avon or marlo or tony soprano to die, even though they did heinous ish? nope, for some reason, i was rooting for them whether it was their background, their reasoning, or just personal charisma( pause), but this walter, when he gets badasss he comes off like a clint eastwood type. old angry cac, and the rest he is just a sneaky weaselof a husband and partner. rooting for him would be like rooting for a snitch.

gus has just entered the arc of the show and is already more interesting than walter. fact that dude is a boss, and own all this fast food joints is just interesting to me. i look forward to watching his character develop.

i must still point put, i like the show fine. it is not in any way wack. 3.5 mics first season is solid. it improved by quite a bit in the second season. and i am expecting more improvents.

one place i will say its better than the wire is in cinematporaphy. i think this is one are where breaking bad has all other shows beat. it looks great the way they film the outdoors, the desert and visuals are very impressive. its a good show but it may seem like i am coming of harsh, but that only because i am comparing it to the every best. its a damn fine show in its own right.

If you can't sympathize with a Chemist who missed out on a million dollar deal, married a c*nt, had a son with cerebral palsy, had to take a job as a Chemistry teacher, then, after all of that, gets cancer... There is something wrong with you. If you can't sympathize with Walter White for the first two seasons of this show, then the rest of the show won't make sense for you. I don't want to throw too many spoilers, but not liking Walter White because he doesn't have "swag" is like not liking Don Draper because he has too much.

I disagree with all you have said here. Specially the "if u don't sympathize with Walt there is no point on watching the rest of the show".

Breaking Bad is one of the few shows where I can't stand the main protagonist aka Walter White. And I couldn't stand Jesse either at 1st. 1st two seasons I thought he a little d!ckhead trying to act hard like he's a top dealer and he was always f*cking situations up. For the 1st 3 seasons I disliked Jesse more than anyone.

Jesse redeems himself towards the end of the 3rd season. From then on he became a lot cooler to me. But Walter White is a hateful scumbag, like I said before, not many shows make u hate the lead character. That's one of the things that makes Breaking Bad interesting.

My only quarrel with Breaking Bad is that the 1st season was too slow. It was good but it started off very slow. Things started to pick up in the 2nd season but the show didn't hit its peak until the 3rd and 4th. Once u've seen those, u should enjoy the show more. That's when the show really gets into full swing.

The only character I actually like in the show is Hank. He's the funniest and most likeable out of the whole cast IMO.

skip seasons 1-3. mostly :trash:

season 4 and 5 are great though, but not GOAT status whatsoever. Gus, Mike, and Hank are by far the only interesting characters.

The show really needs to be taken in as a whole. It definitely starts off slow, but each season is better than the last and by the end of season four you'll be

They call it "Breaking Bad" for a reason, but it takes time. Trust me, Walt will have more "swag" as the seasons pass.

If you dislike Walt from the jump, then his journey to being the antagonist doesn't make any sense. The basic purpose of the show is to turn your protagonist (WW) against the viewer by the time it concludes.

Where you are right is with Jesse. He is just the inverse of the WW arc. At first you think the kid is an idiot and a fukk up, but eventually he gets his shyt together and is a likable guy.

If Walt started and ended as the Unlikable Bad Guy then it would be a basic TV Show, but it's not. That is why Breaking Bad is elite.

It makes sense to me cause he just goes from bad to worse. In the 1st season he was still somewhat likeable but as time goes by he becomes more arrogant and just a worse person altogether.

By about halfway through the 1st season I had already started to dislike him. He just gets worse gradually so the arc still works in that sense. If u disliked him at 1st, u are gonna hate him even more as the show goes on.
