@penfield

and how do you go about proving a player using a gay slur is a homophobic? ive said fakkit or faq many times in a similar context as Kobe, and I dont consider myself hateful towards gays

donald sterling's comments showed that he believes in a sort of institutionalized racism and he has a past history which furthers affirms its

his words spoke to some long ingrained breed of hate that he has clearly harbored for a long time

your analogy is complete ass - fukk outta here

Kobe isn't a owner with the power to hire and fire individuals in the NBA. There is a big difference between ignorance and racism. Racism is a structure. You fukkboys know that

I dunno. I do know that Kobe's words were incredibly hurtful to an entire community though. I'm not sure you felt it but when Donald Sterling was talking about blacks being sub-human and that he didn't want them at the game despite his own team being staffed by several negros I know it hurt the general black community. Hell, you could tell that by the backlash. A 500 hundred page thread on the coli in the span of several days? You know brehs were mad :upsetfavre:
Sure we were mad but our rights were also violated.

Kobe didn't violate anyone's rights. Legally he has the right to free speech.

Sterling doesn't have the right to prohibit blacks from buying property or attending games.

This is a man who used his power and influence to enforce a policy of discrimination and you are comparing it to little more than name calling. :comeon:

I suppose you're right on one hand. But on the other hand, how did being called a fakkit make the ref feel.

I know mad dudes who were called homosexual slurs and who had it really effect their lives. Dudes who could never fulfill their potential because not being accepted in this world was too much to bear.

Say that ref heard those words and quit being a ref. He was called a fakkit on national tv in front of thousands of people by one of the most famous people in the world. My dude is just supposed to shrug that shyt off? Always been known as the dude who Kobe called a fakkit? Life ain't even worth living at that moment.

All I'm asking for is parity. In a league where that is nonexistent the least is we can ask to be human beings and have fairness and equality towards each other. :stopitslime:

Actions and Words breh, there is a difference.

Would you rather a homeless person call you a ******?
Or a restaurant refuse you service for being black?

I'll give you a hint.

The first case is that homeless person's legal right and protected by the first amendment.
The second case is illegal.

This is about going after Sterling for words though. His actual illegal discrimination was given a pass in the past, but his private racist conversations that discriminated against no one are what he's being punished for. That's what I don't like about this situation.

Exactly. Dudes keep bringing up his discrimination from years ago.

All I heard about dude was that he was recorded saying some foul shyt.

Kobe said some foul shyt and got a slap on the wrist and a 10K fine, Sterling banned for life.

In a way Kobe's is more egregious, everyone heard that shyt ffs :upsetfavre:

I agree that the direct action of taped conversation didn't intrude on anyone's civil liberties, but his wording hinted at the fact that he more or less didn't welcome black people into his games and didn't want to associate with them.

It makes an employer-employee relationship awkward.

In addition, his past history of violations - sexual, racial, housing - makes it seem like he would be willing to act with bigotry in light of the new recorded comments.

Are you actually suggesting that gays aren't discriminated in the larger structures of society? :dwillhuh:

I haven't even seen a gay person before, those dudes are like indians as far as I'm concerned

His words made it clear that his intent was to discriminate against blacks just like he did in the past. and he tried to coorce his girlfriend into doing it too.
He never actually said anything verbally insensitive ie dropping n bombs f bombs, comparing black people to animals ect.

Having intent, motive, and means is enough to convict. Especially with the evidence and his track record.

And disparaging comments against gays, homosexuals, lesbians, queers, trans etc. et. al.

Let's be real, this whole Donald Sterling had me thinking about Kobe Bryant calling that ref a fakkit a few years back and it's eerily similar. :ehh:

Now that we've set a precedent with hate speech and we've realized that spiteful language that hurts a large group of people is unacceptable, I fully expect the commish to put homophobes front and center and to ban them for life from the NBA. :manny:

Then again that would probably mean that a large portion of the league would be banned for life but we've set the precedent now:umad:

:lifetimeban: nope.
