Why do you think prior to the Portland game, he had more turnovers than actual field goals he created for himself this season? If he was a "completely different player", he would be able to shoot at a decent clip, he'd be able to create his own offense without turning it over, he'd be able to defend consistently and not be stuck in ball-watching mode while dudes stroll into the paint etc.

The differences are marginal, not even worth discussing., because he's not better to the point where he's changed as a player. He's still barrelling into defenders and turning the ball over at a high rate, because he lacks basketball skill. Why can't you acknowledge this? Pelicans are about to be really really bad this season. I think AD peaked mentally his first few games and now his injury bug has returned and the Pelicans have already begun to regress. If AD misses major time this season (>>20 games) the pelicans will be in the lottery and there’s no way he signs an extension. OTOH Julius might be in a position to sign a larger one year contract with the Lakers next summer which could be extended if Maginca fail to land AD during the season or the following summer.
