In a lot of countries especially in Africa you have to pay cash up front for several months for renting an apartment or pay the full amount if you are buying a house or car. Americans use credit cards or take out Helocs to go on vacations. Majority of Americans are credit rich but cash poor.

America is the only reason I’ver ever had a credit card. When I would go to Florida, the car rental companies would ask me for so much ID and paperwork because I was using my debit card to rent cars. On top of that, they would make me pay additional charges for “security.”

America really is backwards when it comes to finances. My family in Florida said contactless payment has only become a thing since the pandemic whilst the UK has been doing it for years before that.
