Punk didn't cause smarks to turn on Reigns. You could see the boos starting in Summer of 2014, they were pushing him over Ambrose (who was loved by smarks), and his push was very reminiscent of Cena's. But Punk did him no favors on that podcast either.
This is only a half work I think though. CM Punk seems angry all the time and like he believes his gimmick is and needs to be an 100% shoot.
Nah Roman was getting pushed over Ambrose long before the summer of 2014. Fans still cheered. The switch from Ambrose to Roman as the Shield's lead already happened in 2013. Beyond that, Vince told people Roman was getting the rocket at the 2014 Royal Rumble when he broke the elimination record and finished top 2. There were years where that was a wrestlemania championship spot when they had 2 belts, you knew they had huge plans for Roman after that performance. The fans still cheered him on.
Even when they'd booed Rey (of all people) out of the building after they realised Bryan wasn't getting in and it was down to Roman and Batista they cheered him on (because they wanted something new and didn't want Batista to win) when they could have just shat on the whole thing like Brock v Goldberg. The fans wanted Punk and Bryan more but they were okay with settling for Roman up until Punk came out and said that "make Roman look strong" thing. Punk walked out, said the reason he left was because he didn't get the WM main event he'd wanted then he singled Roman out as a guy Vince liked so that turned Roman into a proxy for Vince. Smarks turned Roman into the guy who got their crush after Punk left.
If Vince called an audible and had Roman go over Batista in that Rumble, Roman's reception would have been wildly different.
