Will Smith was the one who brought to attention. Personally, its not the cursing that bothers me its the fact that this nikka said he was a clean rapper and mentioned this numerous times in interviews and his bars and now he's switching up. Its like Eric Sermon wearing grey contacts n shyt.I can tolerate it. He cusses all crazy in movies, not sure why he ever had a no cursing rule... I know his grandma, but cussing has always authentic to him, he's not overdoing it, and his new shyt slaps almost as much as his Fresh Prince shyt.
Trying find some song I heard where is fake freestyling, but he murdered (for him) that shyt.
Yeah, I'm aware. It made him a target to other rappers like he was better than them. Mase did the same shyt when he came back and then he switched up and folks called him on it.Will Smith was the one who brought to attention. I mean Rakim doesn't curse or at least I haven't heard a song where he did (he does say nikka) but he never made a rep off doing that.
What is y'all favorite Will Smith/Fresh Prince song?
For most, it's probably "Summertime" but for me, it's

Will always had a long term vision to infiltrate and dominate mainstream culture at an early age, and starting off with no cursing approach was a sound marketing strategy to sell himself to America and separate himself from the stereotypes folks had about rappers.Fair, but I'd argue that was inauthentic to him. He didn't have to be DMX on the mic, but plenty of rappers have crossed over being mildly vulgar just like he's mildly vulgar in film and he was the biggest movie star in the world for almost 15 years.
I dunno, 9 times out of 10, I just will choose authenticity over a paycheck.
