Did you not see the post when I mentioned Slick Rick
Either way, the beasties are a great group. Their two most innovative albums r licensed to ill (Rick rubin produced) and Paul's boutique (the dust brothers produced). They did a lot to bridge the gap between rock and rap, especially w LTI , which you can credit Rick for. On Paul's boutique, some records may have 10-20 samples in just one song, n they're from all over the place. A record like that could never b made today w all the sampling n copyright laws, it's albums like that and De la souls 3 ft high n rising that gave way to those laws. You listen to those albums n it's a time capsule back to that era. Yeah, if ur looking for lyrics the beasties aren't gonna do it for you but their overall production, artistry, and image was very influential. Plus they were rockin w Run DMC and LL ( who they actually were instrumental in getting him signed) on tour for Christ sakes, they earned their stripes. Later in their career, they added more rock elements to their albums but always kept it Hip Hop IMO. I seem them live in BK in '07 n they tore the stage to pieces. N let's not forget their DJ, Mix Master Mike is one of the illest ppl to touch a set of turntables. I think you'd b hard pressed to find a rapper from that era and after that doesn't have an enormous amount of respect for them. But hey, if u don't like it u don't like it.
