I didn't feel like Fresh Prince had a satisfying ending. What do y'all think should have happened?

All this talk about sitcoms lately and I still catch episodes of Fresh Prince all the time but damn that series finale kind of sucks. Will grew as a person, so to have his ass not being able to even find his own apartment and shyt, having no prospects, shyt was sad. Everyone else moving forward with their careers and Will a fukk up, but the issue is he regressed, he made strides there's no reason why he couldn't have had something going on.

I guess they had no idea how to end the series I'm not even sure I have a better idea myself but what do yall think.

:jbhmm:

edit: I'm thinkin he should have at least locked down Lisa :patrice:

As the main character "audience surrogate", ending the show with him sort of at a cross-roads in his life, with the family moving away, and him staying in California to finish college, gives us just enough of an ending, while still leaving his future open-ended enough for us to speculate on what may have happened.

It was somewhat bittersweet, but at least it was earned. Will was a clever, charismatic, smart, talented, attractive young man who maybe didn't take things seriously all the time. But he stayed in school and he had a good upbringing with the Banks family...I like to believe that the character was ultimately successful in the end.

It's a fine line...on one hand, maybe it would have been nice for Will to have his own thing and ride off into the sunset. On the other hand, they had to be careful not to introduce some silly deux-ex that would have been an obvious attempt at a "happy ending". I tend to lean more towards this latter perspective. Looking at Will's trials and tribulations, cumulatively, I don't know if a "jackpot" storyline would have made sense for the character.

Locking down Lisa might have been appropriate though, I agree with you on that. What did end up coming of their relationship? Did they just drop her in season 6? I can't really remember.

Yeah when they decided not to get married she was never really seen after that and all the women Will dated I felt like they had the realest connection, she was wife material I'm not calling for the series to end with a marriage because that's cliché as anything else but I felt he as a character had grown a lot and I wanted to see more out of it then basically Uncle Phil saving the day yet again. He wasn't 18 no more, he had already accomplished a lot, throw him a lil something :pachaha:

But ultimately that was Will Smith's choice because he controlled the later seasons :manny:

I hated that ending
Im not gonna sit and go down the list of all the shyt Will went through all throughout the course of the show but it for damn sure didnt just involve fukkin around and chasing women all the damn time

My biggest problem with Will is that ultimately, when you really think about or go back and rewatch (cause I myself still watch from time to time) he didnt care enough about himself. And I hated that shyt. Cause when you get to the end and really look at all of what him and that family went through its like, outa everyone it was YOU to be ass'd out in the end?!?!:what:
Took a fukkin bullet for Carlton for fukks sake.
But the one episode for me that really led me to feel like this is the one where Carlton was running the Peacock. Being a straight up dikk. Will dips off. Gets a better gig where he can use his skills to shine is lookin happy doing good, but drops it for Carlton.:martin:
I understand Carlton threw in some raise or some shyt but cmon. That was just one of all too many times Will done put everyone but himself first. But thats just me. What im saying isnt fact or nothin. I just really hated that ending. Yeah, you can go on and be like "well maybe Will does find his way." But that episode was just depressing if you were someone who was rooting for Will the whole series

I wasn't really feeling it either...I'm surprised they didn't end it after season 5.....Still tripping that his mom was his fiancée father's jump for a night, and they decide to get married based off that. That's an L of epic proportions.

Will and Lisa should've gotten married. I read that the writers were always working from the standpoint that this could be the end which is why one season had that ending of him being in philly. And even the ending with he and Lisa not getting married was because they realized the show would go on and I guess they felt they couldn't write a compelling show with a married will but I disagree. That's character growth. That's the proper journey from where he was when the show first started. Marry Lisa, move out and start his own family

I felt Will got too silly in the last season. You could feel the character progression throughout the show up til the marriage with Lisa. Then it's like they just completely went in another direction that final season.

I remember the premiere for the next season after the wedding episode perfectly bc it started with Will just chilling in the house bored acting silly as hell. That same episode he burned the house and was acting real bufoonish. I was like :dahell: watching him tryna put out the fire by sprinkling water on it.

Still the goat sitcom tho.
