I can't believe John Madden just left and stayed away from football 100%

I'm guessing the reason he doesn't make appearances is because he always hated flying. He would travel by bus to each game. He's too old for Zoom/Facetime/social media and probably doesn't want to be bothered trying to learn it. He's probably too old to get around too.

There was a plane crash at Cal Poly and he knew alot of the guys on board. He hated flying and would always take a bus so yes it played a part of him staying out of sight

Madden and drunk ass Summerall was the Aikman-Buck/ Romo-Nance / Collingsworth-Al Micheals of its day especially on Thanksgiving they'd usually give a tour of the "Madden cruiser"

He was 73 when he stepped away from the NBC broadcast in 2009, after 30 years in the booth and 20 in coaching. I don't blame him for wanting to chill away from any sort of media, he gave 50 years to the game.
