I blame the "hustler to buisness man" gimmick for ruining hip hop as an art form.

Yeah
:aicmon: he has more than 500 mill in his bank account, he is a boss

What does that's have to do with the music?

Don't get me wrong I'm a jay fan but for every nikka trying to mimic jay in hip hop being a mogul suffers in the artistic department.

We suffer in the long run because the genre as a whole suffers.

I agree and the first rappers to really perpetuate that were Big and Jay took it to another level.

That whole I aint a rapper Im a hustler shiiit ruined hip hop
They weren't the first to put it in practice and Jay wasn't the first to become successful with it.

The concept of this thread is asinine - what else do you expect from a genre that was born from poverty, pain and disfranchisement?

When Black fans actually bought records in high volume the artform was respected more because artists could actually still eat. The market had to reflect that demand so u saw more diversity in acts with a higher skill set.

Now that the black dollar is no longer reflected in the soundscan, shows etc... U have this bizarre assortment of acts dumbing down and adopting cac mannerisms (skateboarding, tight clothes, what have u.) :sadbron:

Then u have the Drakes and the Trey Songs of the world pandering to the bytches so there will always b a market for that. :steviej:

Once nikkas get back in school and start caking up in large numbers again u will see a renaissance in talent because our buying power will support it.

i already diagnosed hiphop's illness, and its the ARTIST MIXTAPE you speaking on how many in it for the 'art' and 'getrich' sh1t ....... but you dont turn your back on 1000s of rappers dropping mixtape after mixtape de-valuing the art.

I felt like this was the case really heavy especially around 2005 when dudes like 50 and Jay were branching off into brands and everyone needed to get a business deal of sorts.

Now though I think its starting to return to a balance with the younger "hipster" blog artists of the post 2008 era (Kendrick, J Cole, Wiz, Mac, Odd Future etc, Cool Kids etc) who have a little bit more of a balance between the mixtapes and building a base online with videos and stuff. It just feels like they're trying to at least be a little less rigid and more creative.

But yeah emphasis on the business side, while necessary seemed to be have been and is still a bit overstated. Gotta have a balance.

Yeah
The quality just ain't there anymore and it's evident look at the quality in the work.

Music videos went from artistic expression to shameless ways to promote alcholic beverages.

There's nothing wrong with being a boss just don't use hip hop as a crutch in order to become one because as I stated previously it isn't fair that the art as a whole is being diluted to serve the needs of others who could really care less about the quality being put out as long as there making money.

Hip hop is being treated like a prostitute to serve temporary needs and being left to rot in the process.

So while I'm sure diddy and jay-z's alike will have long money regardless if hip hop thrives or not doesn't mean its fair to the few artist who do treat it and respect it as an art to suffer.

and its stupid because 99% of them have ZERO business acumen... let alone staying power past 2 albums for the most part

besides they dont meet the right people. Jay Z met the right people. 50 met the right people.

How these dumb ass rappers gonna meet a Steve Stoute type visionary in the trap??
