Personally, I don't use racial epithets because it's counter productive/regressive. However, I do kindly in a assertive way tell them to NOT use that kind of language because my people suffered and that word has a lot of negative history.

I don't even use the word. There is no difference between er and a. It became a because black people wanted to be like white supremacists and look down on others and started using it. It ends with a because black people sound different from whites and have a different dialect.
