I may be the only person who genuinely liked the whole first arcs of YuYu & HXH, I mean its a long shounen, of course its gonna start slow to build up the world/characters

I actually stopped like 6-7 episodes into this arc. Been too occupied over the last few months. But I see I gotta pick it back up. Didn't realize that I was missing out on so much.

but are the ants demonic though? Note the reversed journeys between Gon and the King. The King starts evil, but after meeting Komugi he learns the value of a single life and the importance of protecting the weak as he aims to create a fair and just world. He constantly spares the lives of others, tells Pitou to heal Komugi when she was hurt instead of using her to fight and protect him, wants to talk to Netero instead of fighting him, his dying wish is to just spend time with Komugi.

Even before all that, when he was "evil," he does nothing differently than humans do as the top of the food chain. The ants were superior beings to humans, straight up, so they treated humans like we treat inferior life forms. He said something along the lines of, "have you ever taken a moment to spare cattle as it was begging for its life?" before killing humans doing the same. Evil Meruem was basically a normal human mentally before developing into arguably a just person.

In many ways, it's the humans that are evil. Gon literally becomes like a demon. He sees Pitou healing Komugi and gives no fukks about saving her life, only caring about his own personal desires. He becomes nothing but a ball of hatred and rage and anger willing to hurt Komugi. He belittles the ants as inferior life forms either unworthy or incapable of compassion. In many ways, Gon becomes who the King was when he was first born, if not worse.

The way Netero uses the bomb, he constantly has this pride as a human he needs to defend, like the ants shouldn't look down on humans or look at them as equals even though the ants are literally superior. The bomb, akin to nuclear weapons, is intentionally described as being an incredibly inhumane weapon for not only its explosion, but the poison it leaks to kill survivors(radiation) and make the survivors able to spread the illness to others.

Meanwhile, Youpi spares many people. Pouf is nothing but a ball of loyalty. The ants that aren't part of the guard actually are often good guys like the wolf, the lobster, Colt, Ikalgo, Meleoron, etc.

I think much of the genius in Chimera ant is the subversive elements of the arc. The lines between good and evil are often blurred, with the humans being evil. Much of the arc is commentary about the true evils of humanity.

Morality is a social construct. There is no right answer for metaethics and reality is deterministic. You can literally say anything blurs the line between good and evil this just did it for little lay people with no philisophical background. In contemporary society I dont see how he isnt evil.

I gave it 17 eps. shyt ain't splitting the atom or anything like that. I know shyt can take time but nah. i ain't feeling it. And if you feel it that's cool. but i don't see it.

HxH starts a little rough with the Hunter Exam itself no doubt, but it picks up breh trust
The Zoldyck and Heavens Arena arcs are much better right after, combine for just 15 episodes, and then this shyt becomes god-tier with Yorknew City

This show is Diet Naruto in the beginning, but it DOES eventually get good. Even I stopped watching after Heaven's Arena before deciding to give it another chance a year or two later. It got REAL with the Yorknew City arc.

So apparently this blind girl's name is Komugi. She doesn't play. Meruem tried to psych her out by having her bet an arm, her life, etc, and she didn't give a what about any of that.
Props to her for standing up to the King, even to the point of him ripping his own arm off (reminds me of Piccolo doing the same thing back in the OG Dragonball.)
Meruem told her to keep playing or die, and she refused until his injuries were treated like "hustler for death, no heaven for a gangsta ( ) "

Knov is a G, infiltrating the palace by himself to set portals that the heroes can use to escape from the palace.
My dude's on a time limit though

If he's still there by the time Pitou is done fixing up the King's arm, it's a wrap...
Please don't let Knov end up booty-butt naked and eviscerated the same way they did Pokkle
In a way, Komugi's gangsta gave the heroes an opening to infitrate the palace to begin with
I got an ugly feeling about the real ruler of the country, Bizeff.

I'm surprised the king hasn't ordered her some Kleenex by now…I would be so sick of looking at her boogers, man...

Komugi is an interesting foil to Meruem. It's smart how she specifically asks him to kill her through Gungi. She can't be bought with desire or fear, and the King's ego is too big for him to kill her off without beating her at that game at least once.

Episode 106

I knew something was off about this dude Bizeff. If only was in one of those trucks...

They got Knov out here infiltrating and murking people in stealth like Snake
I'm getting flashbacks to those MGS3 Foxhound runs...

He's smart for leaving his shoes behind so he won't leave footprints everywhere. I really hope this dude doesn't get murked out and/or lobotomized the way Pokkle did

I still can't get over how right @Ironman was about Morel. This dude is SMART with his powers!

Knov is all messed up after what happened back there. I'm sad that he's out of the fight. He put in work though.

Killua and Gon are finally back. Killua was messed up pretty bad, y'all. Props to Ikalgo for coming through.
It's good to see that Meleoron and Knuckle are cool.
Killua is definitely NOT . I can say that much.

So Knov is officially done, and nobody knows what happened to Palm. It's still cool to see Gon, Killua and the group ready to squad up and handle business.

They've got the Ants thinking that Morel is acting alone... smart.

And what's going on with Meruem?
Right when you think he's beginning to regret his actions, the show pulls the rug out from under you like NOPE

This dude Pouf really wants the King to stay hard forever

...but now Meruem is beginning to legit question his whole existence because of Komugi.

Speaking of which, Komugi says that no one's ever been this nice to her. If this demonic mutant monster who murks people for breakfast and eats little kids' brains out is the nicest person you've ever met, then I don't even want to KNOW what kind of demonic abuse-filled childhood you had growing up

Gon and Killua are probably safe since they're the main dudes. But I'm even scared for them too
And that's not even getting into what's going to happen with Neterou...

I've got a lowkey nasty feeling that Komugi isn't going to live to see the end of this arc...

So now this wolf is looking to make a power move of his own
He knows there's an intruder, but he's keeping it a secret from the top dogs because he wants to take over himself...
