eh in a way, i knew u were gonna say this, but ill put it this way. There are 8 states of consciousness (9 depending on who you ask). If you are on one of these levels, you just cannot understand the thought processes of someone in a different level. For instance, someone whose obsessed with money wont truly understand how someone who devotes their life to saving tigers thinks. The same thing happens here. As someone who thinks on the level OP does, you dont do these things wiith the intent for internal reward. You couldnt give a single fukk about that, its all abut that person being helped. For some its about knowing you helped them which is what you say. But others like me do it from a higher perspective, you help someone and move on, because helping others is just what you do. You do it because it must be done, because if you dont you cant help but ruminate over what youve done.altruism is selfish in itself, though..
when people do charity work they do it because the internal reward.. it makes you feel good to help others. that's selfish.
"No one has ever done anything that was solely for another and without a personal motive. How indeed could he do anything that was not related to himself, thus without an inner necessity (which simply must have its basis in a personal need)? How could the ego act without the ego?"
- Nietzsche - Human, All Too Human"
bytch shut the fukk up

I think its unfair to say someone is selfish for doing that, its the opposite of being selfish. You could spend that time watching tv or spend your money on skittles, but you sacrifice that for others. For anyone to say that one is selfish like everyone else for doing that is very naive. Like i said, if your not the type of person to do that you cant understand the thought processes of someone who does.
Receive daps by thirsty virgin posters cause you're a white chic that likes hip hop and let that gas your head up enough to actually think anybody gives a fukk about what you have to say when the truth is nobody really gives a fukk brehs
its probably both tbh, for most people. But for someone on that budda steez its just about helping. Like jesus, he just went around healing people, not out of a fear of guilt, but out of pure compassion
good points
but I have to ask regarding the underlined part. I'm a philosophy noob, never went to school.. just interested as hobby, so excuse me for asking..
but say someones bleeding out on the street after being stabbed or something and i help them..am i doing it because they "need" the help in order to survive or am i doing it because I don't want the emotional and mental punishment of not doing so?
bring up irrelevant points in a thread that has nothing to do with whats being discussed just so you can insult me. feel better now? thanks for proving you are a man child.
This thread is a primary example of the states of consciuosness. Most of you dont understand OPs point and even demean it despite the fact that its as true as can be. This is the type of shyt guys like jesus and budda said, things that humanity has mutually agreed upon as universal truths. This is also a very sad thing, as it suggests the vast majority of people will never be so altruistic as to help lead humanity towards peace and fairness

Edit posts you made to address someone you're furious at when you didn't address them initially in the post but only did so because that ether burns slow and the person that you're furious at isn't insulting you he's only telling the truth and it hurts brehs
