I'm really digging the first 3 so far. Only moment I didn't like was I think Mario Van Peebles missed the mark in swiping Blindspotting for that courtroom scene. Cool they reworked the Problems lyrics for it though:

I rock with the RZA cat, he has the awkwardness down, all he is missing imo is the speech impediment. The shyt might be hard lowkey for even an impersonator to do in character for an entire series. As an actor he might be trying to bring his own interpretation to the role in a way.
He has the awkwardness but NONE of the charisma or energy.

I can't see this guy yelling "YO GHOST, RAE :gladbron: WASSUP WIT Y'ALL nikkaS AHHH :ahh:"

EXACTLY.

You have to be a special, charismatic and respected person for 8 or 9 alpha street dudes to follow your directions. This dude playing RZA has NONE of that energy and I don't buy him as a leader at all.

I been saying this since last season.

RZA got EIGHT OTHER hardened street nikkas to put their lives in his hands and set aside beefs and blood feuds to create the most iconic Hip Hop group of all time. not one, not two, not three. EIGHT OF THESE nikkaS!

And not only that. But the show has really gone out of its way to dramatize the beefs they had too. They had Raekwon shooting up Ghostface house with his mom and brothers there. Can you IMAGINE the real life Ghostface Killah EVER letting that go?!!? But somehow THIS version of RZA is going to bring these nikkas together to the point where they eventually become one of the greatest duos of all time?!!?! Naw. It doesn’t come off authentic.

And this is coming from someone who thinks Ashton Sanders has improved in the role. But he ain’t RZA.

naw not really. He didn’t have beats completed but had drafts. I’ve heard other versions of Wu tang beats one day when I was with 9th prince.

he made sure to take the cd from my car lol this was over a decade ago. I’ve heard a track RZA produced that had Joe budden on it

RZA was playing it in his studio. One day I pray we get unreleased music from RZA. He probably has shyt that he forgot he did
Yeah, you hear old Wu demos and you'll hear plenty of beats from later on. Tical had Guillotine as recurring interlude. The sample on the OG Bring Da Ruckus got used for Wisdom Body, etc.

I don't think RZA was the one who wanted this kid that plays him playing him. Gotta be some industry favor shyt. RZA was on Big Boy radio show during the first season and Big Boy asked him how he feels about the the job the kid is doing playing him and RZA was like :ld:
HAD to be a favor cuz like, not only does he not pull off his personality, he dont even LOOK like him :mindblown: Every other casting got the look down reasonably close even if stuff like height or voice are off. Yet RZA is the one person that doesn't even look CLOSE to the real thing.

RZA chose him personally and he didn’t have to audition

Even more reason his casting looks like a favor. He didn't have to audition, he doesn't look like him, doesn't act like him, not a fan of Wu, RZA doesn't seem too happy with his portrayal of him...shyt smells like clear Hollywood politics.

if the timeline for these beats is accurate, its crazy how they were able to sit on songs like that, waiting for solos and whatnot. im nowhere near that patient

Yeah, you hear old Wu demos and you'll hear plenty of beats from later on. Tical had Guillotine as recurring interlude. The sample on the OG Bring Da Ruckus got used for Wisdom Body, etc.

It depends on the beat. Like, for example, it's well established in many interviews the CREAM beat was around since around 88. Or you have examples of the early version of the Gravediggaz "Diary of a Madman" beat as "Wu-Tang Master" by RZA & RNS on the Wu demos. Or Meth shouting out how dope GZA's Killah Hills 10304 is back on Tical.

Also the timeline is truncated so all of this late 80s to pre Wu era is happening in a year plus in show time. That said, 36 Chambers, 6 Feet Deep, Tical, Return to 36, Cuban Linx & Liquid Swords all dropped 93-95 (plus all RZA produced loosies in that time). Most of those beats were already on deck for those projects.

So it's very accurate that RZA would be just churning out beats around this time and, as he made them, he'd specifically set them aside with specific Wu members in mind. Like the "Deck album" lost in the flood wasn't ever a recorded product with Deck on the tracks, but the beats that were set aside for Deck's album were wiped out.

I remember RZA said he sent Rae and Ghost a tape of like 10 beats that they took with them to Barbados and wrote to. That served as the foundation of Cuban Linx
