Hold up.. government shutdown? what's going on?
The conservative Republicans in the House are desperately trying to defund Obamacare before the exchanges open on October 1 i.e. tomorrow. This happens to be the same date that the government needs to have a budget passed to stay open for FY14. They decided to tie the defunding of Obamacare to this "continuing resolution" in order to keep the government funded. This will not pass the democratic senate or the president's veto. Essentially, the senate will strip out the provision that requires a defunding of Obamacare and this bill to keep the government open will go back to the house, where they will have to decide whether they "give up" their fight against Obamacare by approving the senate's stripped down version or not approve a budget at all and then the government shuts down for the first time since 1995-96. The deadline is midnight as the Fiscal Year for 2013 ends.

The government hasn't passed a budget since 2009 and has been on a continuing resolution since then with cuts coming this year due to the debt ceiling crisis in 2011.

The debt ceiling will be reached on 10/17 and we'll have another showdown where the Republicans in the House will try to prevent the ceiling to increase so that they can cut government spending.

I'm a contractor. I won't be going to work tomorrow. I guess I will be doing some reading and playing videogames/watching movies during the daytime. Might start responding to all these job emails I get from when I post my resume on dice.com Something private sector LOL.

Thankfully my job is considered essential for safety of the public so I will be getting paid to work, although any vacation/sick time we take after October 1st, we won't get paid for. It will be considered a furlough day. Making out better than some I suppose, so I can't complain.

fukk Congress btw.

Yeah but that was just the summation of the 7 years prior. Jobs aren't coming back to America and the rich aren't giving the money they stole back. We're not going to get a middle class bailout. Nikkas better either start putting heads on a stake or accept that they are going to be poor and living check to check til the die in their grave.

America is slowly but surely turning into a country where if you aren't rich...you're fcked.
