Okay conservatives, post your rational arguments that we constantly bury here. I won't downvote any of them. Hopefully others will follow suit. r/politics

idk if any of yall are on reddit, but on their politics subforum this was posted. its a very thought-provoking thread about what people would do to fix the government

-6 year single term president. president has more time in office to accomplish goals

-election period reduced to 6 weeks. less time on the road, more time working

what would you do?

the whole thread is a good read if your interested in politics

Dead the government, they provide NOTHING. Free market can provide literally, and by literally I mean 1046549892,65463% literrally everything those overpaid leeches provide now.

Government is redundant and the only way to fix it is to cancel it, or leave it handling bare essentials...I dont know what...borders and fire fighters.

we dont have to change anything structurally.

humans need to look out for each other, provide for the common good, and stop being greedy selfish a$$holes.

then everything will be fine

with corporate greed operating at all-time highs this is a bad idea. putting the private sector in charge of serving government functions would make things socially deteriorate quicker than they already are... im talking mad max in less than 7 years... because corps dont know how to stop, they have no limits, they are completely self-serving, and worse, they have no morals.

so no matter how shytty a job our government is doing at regulating corps right now, the govt still provides us a level of protection and there are still some effective mechanisms in place that dont allow big business to have free reign. with everything private, the corps would have free reign:scusthov:

Put a cap on how much each candidate can raise during fundraising and eliminate Super PACs.

Reps and Senators have to come back to their district/state every three months and let people know what they've been voting for/supporting/pushing. They'll face a vote each time they come back on whether their constituency approves. If they get three strikes, they're out and a vote is held to replace them. This puts the power back in the people's hands, where it's supposed to be, instead of these money hungry creeps.

Prosecute politicians who publicly say their sole purpose is to make sure the newly elected President is a one-term President. That's treason and should be treated as such.

More regulation by the government on business to keep them in check and shift the focus back on people instead of profit. We're all supposed to be in this together.

The higher a person's education the less likely they are to be arrested. Something like 1% of people with PhD's ever get arrested. Find a way to make universities cheap for Americans. That could even change the whole culture, the current government tries to keep us dumbed down as much as possible.

Do away with the presidency, it's become too powerful a position. There's nothing the president does that's necessarry. Delegate those powers to congress, or find another way to at least shrink the powers of the presidency.

End the two party system. And reform campaign finance laws. Most government corruption stems from officials pandering for money. And the main reason the government can't seem to get anything done is because they are always pandering to their own party, hoping to get reelected. If we fix those two things we might actualy get some real candidates that can/will make some real improvements.

term limits on senators/congress

nobody should be a career politician

This is a huge one!

I also believe that politicians should have the same healthcare plans as regular government workers. What's good for the goose...

Also, take away Congress' ability to vote themselves a raise! They are ineffective and routinely vote themselves increases!

I think that is an awesome idea but unlikely to happen. America's funny; we don't take pride (as a nation) in education...it's not our priority to have our citizenry educated.
