I get it but situations can't be compared.Liberals for decades: "LBJ used intimidation and strongarm tactics to get lawmakers to do what he wanted! He's our hero!"
Liberals today: "There's NOTHING Joe Biden could even POSSIBLY do to get Manchin and Sinema in line! NOTHING!"
"Biden is the ONLY ONE who can beat Trump. He can GET THINGS DONE. He has the MOST PROGRESSIVE AGENDA IN HISTORY."I get it but situations can't be compared.
LBJ had Democratic supermajorities in both houses of Congress and there were a lot more moderate & liberal Republicans in Congress in the 1960s. Bipartisanship was normal in the '60s NOT today.
The days of 58 or 59 are gone but there are 52 Dem seats. It’s the fact Maine will vote for a Collins but the GOP strongholds are blood red. That’s very difficult because the Senate is structurally anti-democratic (small d) and not reflective of public will.
Now top administration officials are making it increasingly clear that the White House’s appetite for bipartisanship is not infinite. Any bipartisan agreement is likely to significantly scale back Biden’s infrastructure plan at a time when Democrats control both chambers of Congress.
“Patience is not unending, and he wants to make progress. His only line in the sand is inaction,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Wednesday. “He wants to sign a bill into law this summer.”
