:dahell:

Bernie’s staff and lawyers were putting in the work to convince the parliamentarian putting the minimum wage in the bill is within budget reconciliation rules.

Parliamentarian said no. So he offered that amendment. Now we know the 8 Dems who need to be pressured and there definitely is 60 votes on $11 based on the reporting we’ve seen though the Republicans want something bad with it

He assured that the parliamentarian wasn't going to be an issue, knowing he didn't have the votes no matter what they ruled. Then he came up with that lame ass, loophole-laden tax plan, let Kamala take the blame for 'obstructing,' then push the amendment that he already knew was going to fail, all because he failed to get the votes.

Like I said, he keeps selling wolf tickets and then wants to fall back when it's not that easy. Any other Dem would be getting torched right now for this shyt show. Just an absolute failure as a legislator.

If that number is true, the Democrats will have earned decent goodwill among much of the voting public, at least for a few months. They are going to hype the shyt out of the kids out of poverty angle. Couple that with further economic recovery and widespread vaccine access...minimum wage won't be high on public's list for a minute. :manny:

Then maybe during the summer you've got enough political capital to go after HR.1 and justify putting Manchin and Sinema in a public headlock.

Jesus. That's a brutal assessment. Is it true though? I haven't been following this shytshow.

It wasn’t just him coming up with that tax plan. Ron Wyden who is the Finance chair and Schumer all announced it at the same time. They scrambled because they were confident and the CBO score showed deficit impact.

This whole Kamala the blame is odd. Where is he blaming her? Him saying the VP can overrule the parliamentarian isn’t controversial. It’s a fact. If there was 52-53 Dem Senators it would in play. Quit watching these people on rose Twitter. They’re crazy,

With that said it’s clear now that VP overruling parliamentarian does mean Manchin would kill the whole thing.

Biden including the minimum wage in his plan and the parliamentarian ruling in favor was the plan. Under that scenario, the situation flips a bit. They banked on it and got burned.

Legislatively I’m not sure what the counter would be under reconciliation process. Maybe a version of that tax idea gets better with more time and study.

No, the outrage over the minimum wage vote failing isn't "optics". People are disgusted and angry that we live in a country that refuses to outlaw poverty wages. Anger at things not happening is one of the bases of, like, creating change.
Seems like people were getting angry because they truly believed this vote was going through. Democrats knew it wasn't going to happen through CR. Why get people gassed up?

Can't knock them for trying I guess.
