I don't remember much from 2009...was Avatar really a phenomenon like that? :dahell:

it's funny cuz even tho it's the #1 highest grossing film of all time, it didn't make much of a dent in pop culture. in a weird way, feel like it's a mostly forgotten film in the modern landscape of pop culture :patrice:

if Marvel, after 20 films of build-up can't beat Avatar, I don't think any film is for a long, long time :whoo:
It was hyped up before release as some sort of special effects 3d masterpiece and everyone bought into it.
Overall the story was basic as hell though. But the effects for the most part did live up to expectation. I do remember watching it in 3d and being impressed.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
3D tickets costed about twice a much as a regular ticket. You do the math.

it stayed either number one or top 5 for like 2 months. And the most it made in one weekend was $77 million. It was a slow burn to the record.

it was the “perfect” blockbuster film

It came out in December. It wasn’t a blockbuster, just good marketing and hype.

"Dune" is a much much better version of a similar story. I hope the new remake of that does well.

lmao a blockbuster film is not defined by when it releases unless I specifically said it was a summer blockbuster...that’s not debatable...just look it up

Yea only reason it cant be topped because people were paying for tickets that are double regular admission. So you add that to the fact it was MUST-SEE you not gonna see a movie put up those numbers again

Thats why james cameron is probably waiting for some new cutting edge technology before he does part 2
