Never said I believed it. But it's possible. Kubrick didn't allude to it in 2001, which came out a year before the landings, but in the Shining. I'm not saying this guy is right but he does bring up some interesting points, and reaches massively on a few as well. If it was any other director I'd never entertain the possibility, but given how amazing 2001 looks even to this day, it's certainly possible.so you believe that? are you serious?
first you have to believe the that moon landing was faked to begin with which is a huge deal
then you have to believe that Kubrick did it and then clued us into it in one of his movies which was released a year before the first landing
I mean
"Parenthetically, it's true that in some parts of Germany the word Berliner can just as well denote a certain kind of jelly-filled pastry as a citizen of Berlin"
Kubricks eye for visuals is unmatched by any other director. Those Vista shots in the dawn of man portion of the movie are gorgeous, some of the shots look like an oil painting
Tree of life was gorgeous. Still, no one is touching Kubrick's lens game.Terrence Malick.
Huge Kurbrick fan but I never got around to watching "2001" until recently. Wow, I was blown away. I remember being a kid and my dad use to watch it on VHS but it didn't interest me cause by that time "Star Wars" had taken over. Same with "Blade Runner", I remember look at the VHS box and thinking it was a Han Solo movie, lol. Anyways I'm glade I watched "Blade Runner" and "2001" later cause as a grown man I'm able to process all the themes and what's being presented. "2001: A Space Odyssey" is easily one of the greatest movies of all time. The effects for 1968 were mind blowing, I can't even imagine how blown away people were when they watched this. I loved the concept and themes.
It's trips me out cause watching 2001 you can see how it pretty much influenced all major sci-fi films after it including "Close Encounters, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Alien and Aliens" and even recently with "Prometheus" which clearly took from "2001". Kurbrick never won an Oscar for Directing, Best Picture or Writing but his only Oscar was for "2001" for Visual Effects. It was an amazing film and I'm still trying to process the ending and what it means. Also for people saying it was "Boring or Slow" I didn't get that. The movie had my attention all the way through. Sure the Primate/ape part was a little slow cause I was trying to understand where it's going but once you get into space you see how it's all connected. I mean the movie touched on Evolution, God, Space, Extra Terrestrials technology I mean just so many different themes. Love the whole Man vs Machine aspect and Hal 9000 was a great villain. Love the whole worm hole sequence. Straight up they need to re-release this in IMAX for a limited screening cause I would watch it. Honestly for years "The Shinning and Full Metal Jacket" were my favs from him but "2001" has shot up my list. Movie was just unbelievable. You know a movie is timeless when you can watch it 45 Years later and just be completely blown away.
I hadn't seen it either, until well after seeing all the other sci-fi classics like the ones you mentioned. I had just seen Prometheus before watching it and you can see the parallels so much. It's really amazing how influential the film was. I wouldn't say the beginning is boring, to me it's absolutely hypnotizing. How gorgeous the movie looks, all the stuff in space with the classical music. Especially when you're high it's just like..Huge Kurbrick fan but I never got around to watching "2001" until recently. You might also wanna get 2010 to make sense of the ending of 2001. If only Kubrick had directed 2010........

thanks for reupping this thread (whoever did)
it's amazing how much this one shot conveys within the entire scope of the movie
still me everytime.
I just saw Jurassic Park in 3D imax and the CGI looked dated. This movie has no visual flaws...absolutely incredible. The Entire opening to "Prometheus" bit the opening of "2001" almost shot for shot. And the themes of humanity being created by an Extra Teresterial force was also something "Prometheus" clearly took from "2001". Again the DNA of modern Sci-Fi as we know it can be traced back to "2001". What's crazy is it's 2013 and we still aren't doing the things they thought we would be doing by 2001. The movie is really ahead of it's time.
