There is a fascinating remez ('hint') regarding Iron, Matriarchs, Patriarchs and Erretz Yisra'el in the last book of Tοrah, brought down by the 19th-century Turkish Rav, Ħayyim Palaji (somewhere in his work entitled ‘Artzοt Haħayyim’, in the name of his son Rav Yitzħaḳ Palaji). God willing, I will find it before Yom Kippur.
@MMS, found it on page 8 of Rav Ħayyim Palaji’s ‘Artzοt Haħayyim’ printed by Shmelke Yosef Shmer & Co. at Y'rushalayim, Erretz Yisra'el in 5632 (1871/72).

The initial letters of
אֲֲֲבָָָנֶֶֽיהָָָ בַַרְְזֶֶֶל וּמֵֵֽהֲֲֲרָָָרֶֶֽיהָָָ תַַּחְְצֹֹב avaneha varzel umeharareha taħtzοv ('[a land whose] rocks are iron and from [whose] mountains you shall hew [copper]', see D'varim 8:9) spell out the word אָָָבוֹֹת avοt ('patriarchs'), whereas בַַּרְְזֶֶֶל barzel ('iron') represents the matriarchs; and the word אֲֲֲבָָָנֶֶֽיהָָָ avaneha ('its rocks') is an anagram of בַַּנָָָּאֶֶֽיהָָָ banna'eha ('its builders'). From here we learn that Erretz Yisra'el is built upon the virtues of the Patriarchs and the Matriarchs!

this last few messages have me quite confused now

youtube randomly sent me this too and now im questioning the effect of literal metals on history and religion as we know it

IE the one thing all female mammals have in common is a link between their womb and the earth (their time of uncleanness) but if its more complicated than that :jbhmm: in biochemistry metals are in small quantities in the body but are very complex and copper and iron are some of the most common found in living creatures

it also makes the scene when Moses turned the nile into blood, would make more sense if his staff was Iron @Marks that plays into that post i made about Heme

I learned that Mοsheh’s staff was made of a primordial sapphire. So perhaps it did contain iron (and copper, for that matter).

Rash"i in his second note there explains בְְּשֵֵֽׁבֶֶֶט בַַּרְְזֶֶֶל b'sheveṭ barzel ('with an iron rod') as referring to הַַחֶֶֽרֶֶב haħerev ('the sword')!

That is not Hebrew, that is Swahili transliterated into Hebrew characters. Notice, also, how the words ג'יפלילה (lines 6, 7), ג'מבוג'י (lines 10, 11), צ'ילונגאטי (line 12) and צ'ירה (line 13) all have an apostrophe after the letters ג gimmel and צ tzaddi? This mark denotes a foreign (non-Hebrew) word/sound: has the value of j in ג'ני (jenny) and has the value of ch in 'אינצ (inch). It is properly a geresh (׳), or צ׳ופצ׳יק chupchiḳ in the vernacular, but you will often see an apostrophe (').

are there situations where people transliterated hebrew into another language that are also notable? :jbhmm: you referred to the septuagint as a "dreck" and it made me think about it

also why do you think the other muslim/arab nations are not directly getting involved with the israel/palestine conflict currently?

Hmm... As far as everyday terms, how about שַַׂק saḳ (a 'sack'), or better yet אוֹֹתוֹֹ־מוֹֹבִִיל οtο-mοvil ('self-leading')? English has a number of words which derive ultimately from Hebrew (albeit few dictionaries trace their etymologies back that far, normally stopping once they reach the classical languages Greek and Latin).

שַַׂק saḳ is of Torahic origin (e.g., B'reshyt 37:34), as is the direct object אוֹֹתוֹֹ οtο (B'reshyt 1:27); and מוֹֹבִִיל mοvil is found in Yοnatan’s Targum (late 1st century BCE) on Y'sha'yah 10:32, which is the regular hafṭarah (a reading from the N'vi'im following the parashah on Saturdays and Festivals) for the eighth day of Pesaħ.

How many times can you help your brother fight a losing battle against your cousin? The numbers are on your side, and yet you're still outmanned. It gets old, fast.

very interesting

the line from the Quran/Hadith that I think is the key to understanding the problem is this one

(9a)Chapter: The Cleansing of Impurities - Section 1(8)باب تطهير النجاسات - الفصل الأول
Abu Huraira reported God’s messenger as saying, “When a dog drinks out of a vessel belonging to any of you, he must wash it seven times,”

(Bukhari and Muslim) In a version by Muslim he said, “When a dog laps the water in a vessel belonging to any of you, he must wash it seven times, using earth the first time.”
Reference : Mishkat al-Masabih 490
In-book reference : Book 3, Hadith 191

but then here in Surah Yusuf

And so, when they took him away and decided to throw him into the bottom of the well, We inspired him: “˹One day˺ you will remind them of this deed of theirs while they are unaware ˹of who you are˺.”

:jbhmm: if Zulaikha is trying to rule over Joseph, and the Egyptians associated serpents with dogs (the red crown)...

AbydosSethosCh-191.jpg

what are the odds that the Egyptians conspired with dogs against the Hebrews if they were doing this? is Seti "wearing" Zulaikha?
The ancient Greek historian Aelian wrote: "In Egypt, they worship lions, and there is a city called after them. (...) The lions have temples and numerous spaces in which to roam; the flesh of oxen is supplied to them daily (...) and the lions eat to the accompaniment of song in the Egyptian language"
Is this the precursor to barbecue sit down restaurants? :damn:
