I feel ya breh. We dont have no Columbus day here in Sweden but we do have that Swedish cac Carl von Linné on our bills and a stupid ass day for that cracker. Yes he Discoverd some flowers and named them but they never mention that he was also a race biologist who measured skulls and placed black people lower than some animals and right There with monkeys.

Lol I lived in Italy and never even heard anyone mention Columbus, looks like girl was looking for ways to reclaim her Italian heritage...maybe it's different in Genoa.

Dude said Muslims didnt conquer land :deadrose:

you are comparing people who came with the message of peace and love, with a european white man who came to kill and enslave the indigenous people. I know you're not that big of a dumb ass, to not understand the difference, friend.

"As I saw that they were very friendly to us, and perceived that they could be much more easily converted to our holy faith by gentle means than by force, I presented them with some red caps, and strings of beads to wear upon the neck, and many other trifles of small value, wherewith they were much delighted, and became wonderfully attached to us. Afterwards they came swimming to the boats, bringing parrots, balls of cotton thread, javelins, and many other things which they exchanged for articles we gave them, such as glass beads, and hawk's bells; which trade was carried on with the utmost good will. But they seemed on the whole to me, to be a very poor people. They all go completely naked, even the women, though I saw but one girl. All whom I saw were young, not above thirty years of age, well made, with fine shapes and faces; their hair short, and coarse like that of a horse's tail, combed toward the forehead, except a small portion which they suffer to hang down behind, and never cut. Some paint themselves with black, which makes them appear like those of the Canaries, neither black nor white; others with white, others with red, and others with such colors as they can find. Some paint the face, and some the whole body; others only the eyes, and others the nose. Weapons they have none, nor are acquainted with them, for I showed them swords which they grasped by the blades, and cut themselves through ignorance. They have no iron, their javelins being without it, and nothing more than sticks, though some have fish-bones or other things at the ends. They are all of a good size and stature, and handsomely formed. I saw some with scars of wounds upon their bodies, and demanded by signs the of them; they answered me in the same way, that there came people from the other islands in the neighborhood who endeavored to make prisoners of them, and they defended themselves. I thought then, and still believe, that these were from the continent. It appears to me, that the people are ingenious, and would be good servants and I am of opinion that they would very readily become Christians, as they appear to have no religion. They very quickly learn such words as are spoken to them. If it please our Lord, I intend at my return to carry home six of them to your Highnesses, that they may learn our language. I saw no beasts in the island, nor any sort of animals except parrots."

"I wished to give a complete relation to your Highnesses, and also where a fort might be built…. However, I do not see it to be necessary, because these people are simple in armaments…. With fifty men I could subjugate them all and make them do everything that is required of them."

yall are missing the point.

the question is: what does this say about us AS A SOCIETY?

you are a part of this society right? so yes this effects you.

so again i ask, what does it say about this society that we gave a person like christopher columbus his own personal holiday?

It just means most people don't care. Who really "celebrates," Columbus Day? It's a free holiday for government workers and bankers. Most people don't know the truth about him and could care less either way. Me personally, I don't give two fukks. Too much stuff going on right now to care about Columbus. We know what he was about, just don't care.

but if our government and our social order support columbus and his ideals to the point of naming a day after him, and you are 100% subject to the whims and wishes of the government and the social order, shouldn't you care?

people thinking this doesnt affect them, when in reality it is affecting every aspect of their lives.

the government supports the ideology and actions of columbus. the government facilitates your everyday living. 1+1=2.

Most people in America don't even know why Columbus Day is even Columbus day...

i see the point but its a reach, there are no Columbus day parties. It was prolly invented to just have another day off work for the Fed.

Besides i know of some schools that take MLK day off. :manny:

but honestly Columbus was a fraud anyway...technically it should be Amerigo Vespucci day....you know he's only THE GUY THE WHOLE TWO CONTINENTS ARE NAMED AFTER.

I don't think most people know enough about who Colombus actually was to actually care...

and the greater majority, once they DO learn, the benefit of a single day off is too much for them to even consider..... "boycotting" it and going to work. lol
