How sad was it when the hood dismissed Starburys as "cheap sneakers?"

I clowned a dude so hard for wearing Starbury's :snoop:

breh came on the first day of junior year for him...senior year for me.

Had the fresh Nike T shirt... nice new levis...and a pair of red Starbury's to match the Nike swoosh

I know he left the house feeling like :youngsabo:

maaaaaaaan

I took one look at dude and said "Oh you can afford the shirt but not the shoes?"

"man shut up" :sadcam:

"Are those the 'be a Star'-bury's"

":mjcry:"

"If you don't get those generic ass backup point guard shoes TF outta here..."

:wow: I was ruthless...and really I was just dissing his family.

They probably should have been more expensive.

Not Jordan expensive, but maybe $65-90 range and they probably would have faired better.

There's this weird rule about fashion, that you can't make the product too accessible or the perceived value goes down. Absolutely ludicrous, I know.

It's why Michael Kors/Polo kills the game, they put it at a price that isn't unaffordable but it's too much for the average person to deck their whole closet out with it. Jordan's are no different. Problem is, Jordan's are treated like crack when in actuality the quality and in my opinion the styling is average at best.

Nah no Starburrys

:ehh:

.You see....No one gave a fukk about Marburys reason for making them cheap. No one gave a damn about "the cause." Can't nobody ever say Marbury didnt try to give back to the hood or that he didnt try to do something for Blackfolks.

Social conditioning got the W when Starburys got that "cheap" label.

I remember I copped a pair from a an old ass piff store called Steve and Barrys. I think It filed Chapt 11 during the financial collapse. Every single item of clothing was $7. Graphic Tshirts, hoodies, jackets, collegiate apparel. :banderas:

Yes Steve and Barrys....Downtown Manhattan.....Thats where u had to go to cop them

I would wear these today :yeshrug:

In September 2015, Marbury announced via Instagram that the line would be reintroduced.

He got some new line ups in the mix but aint no one really talking about them..

https://www.starbury.com/new-products

..And he kept it 1 hunnid and left the price at 15 bucks on most of them

:salute:

I had 2 pair and was in my mid 20's so I didnt give a fukk about what the crowd was saying. I wore both pairs till they wore out. Only reason I didnt go back to cop more was because I didnt believe in going all the way downtown to cop sneakers like that. But had they have been available at regular sneaker outlets I woulda kept it going.
:heh: That's because you were in your 20's though. When I was outta High School & got to college, it was breath of fresh air that there wasn't peer pressure to wear name-brand & designer-brand clothing like in High School & Middle School. :whew:

Sneaker culture back when we was in high school was craaaazy.

It was about the price and the look.
