How overrated is the "Spurs are fundamentally sound" mantra?

Watching Ginobili and Tony Parker take it to the hoop, Ginobili hitting shots off the wrong foot, using the lefty cross over, or Tony just giving cats the straight beats off the dribble, exactly what is fundamentally sound about how they do it outside of setting up outside shooters?

These dudes are streetballers with an accent, yet that fundamental mantra tied to TD speaks for all of them.

compared to the iso-based offenses you see today, they're considered fundamentally-sound because they move the ball around.

but you have a point.

As a team though they are because of how they move the ball..its beautiful to watch ball movement again in the nba..iso and pick n roll all the time is not pretty to watch..

Its about the flow and philosophy of the offense. Ginobli prolly hits one shot a game like you described. And TP is almost always using screens to beat his man, not just straight taking them off the dribble. I dont even kow what youre talking bout in reference to how they finish at the hoop. :what:

I guess it is tied to how the basll moves around, which I already.

But I think people underrate how athletic and freakish some of their players are.

Exactly. And fundamentally sound doesn't just mean offense, they also play good all around defense.

You can nit pick and say what you want but the Spurs haven't lost in forever and they're obviously better than everyone else.

Brolic... Alcoholics
Pop found a way to orchestrate an offense that spreads the floor and put people in positions that makes it hard for defensive rotations to recover. When people speak of the fundamental soundness of the Spurs, it has nothing to do with the individual players and everything to do with how those individuals play as a team.

And what "lefty crossover" are you talking about? Ginobli is left handed.

They definitely have playground like moments and have a flair to they game especially Ginobli..But as i said the ball movement seprates them from everyone else..

It's a shame how young players/coaches really dont undestand that ball movement is so effective against defenses to get open shots and can be deadly when done right like the Spurs..

Standing around dribbling the ball using iso only helps the defense out..

They def play team ball but Parker and Ginobli get to the hoop like streetball players.

Yeah but its VERY clear what people are talking bout when they mention how 'fundamentally sound' the Spurs are.

shooting the ball off the wrong foot isnt really fundamentally sound, and Ginobli does it 3 times a game.

I just think they are playing on the "boring" angle and Tim Duncan more than what is actually on display.

Parker & Ginobili have very high b-ball IQs.

Throughout Manu's career he's made fans say, "no....yes!" because of the style he plays.

Parker was reckless when he first got in the league, but came into his own years ago...dating back to 07 when they won the title. It's Parker's team & it has been for a couple years now.

It's both Duncan & Pop that have helped them become who they are.
