The same disparity should balance out between men and women some all men and all women aren't doing the same jobs, but pay should be normalized between similar work.
Do we have some examples of jobs where men and women do the exact same work for different pay at the same company?

Seems this is comparing any man and woman who's in the top 2% regardless of the job title.

How do we know they aren't comparing the wages of a female owner of a beauty salon, with a male owner of a construction company.


When you say similar work, how do we know we aren't comparing a man getting paid more at one company than a woman is at a different company? What if one business just pays more for similar work?

It's like saying a man working at chick fil a getting paid more than a woman at McDonald's is gender inequality.

This has always been my issue, people always talk about this issue, but what is the solution. Women and men get paid the same at the same work place, no company is going to pay men working the exact same job at the exact same company more than women, you would have a lawsuit on your hands. This is purely a talking point by democrats specifically to try to ensure womens votes because they never tackle the issue when in office.

Thats not true most people never find out companies encourage you not to talk about how much you make with coworkers.

Not sure which company you work at but pay scales are present on job posting internally and also people have an idea what employees make because there is even information about company's salaries online. Again it makes way more sense for a company to just pay an employee what they are suppose to get paid for that position and not focus on the gender or race for that matter, discrimination lawsuits can be damaging for a company. There are factors that can close the wage gap (women choosing not to have kids, women choosing majors with more lucrative careers, etc.) but those are mostly personal, legislation can't change it.

This is such a clumsy, try-hard presentation of the gender wage gap. Of course this gap is going to look terrible. Some of the highest paying professions / professions with the steepest salary progressions are also the most taxing when it comes to work-life balance.

shyt's changing, but my perception is that you have to be a rockstar rainmaker at most firms in order to be accommodated when it comes to slowing down a bit / taking off time for kids. If you're a man, you can more easily wife up a chick who is willing to hold things down at home while you bounce back to work a week after your kid is born. Or you can just wait till you're more established in your 30s / 40s to slow down and start a family, having already been aggressive on the career front when it most matters (late 20s / early 30s).

It'd be more interesting to see what the data looks like for women who have already self-selected and shown some kind of commitment to demanding careers. I think they did that recently with MBA grads going into the same professions and saw that the wage gap existed though not nearly as exaggerated as suggested here (still significant though).

It's occurring to me that I've never seen a thorough quantitative study on the gap, though, anybody want to hook that up?

This was a study. Nothing lazy about it.

This study also focused on the top 2% to remove most of the reasons idiots like you attempt to parrot out.

What do you perceive to be reason?

Did they do it based on industry and experience level as well? Because those are very large factors that affect the difference.

Ex. There are more female nurses and teachers and more male doctors and engineers. So of course if you compare things like that without specifying an industry, the males will come out as making more because they are in a field that pays higher, while women chose something that pays less.



I doubt that they separated it like that though even though it makes the most sense.

This is actually amazing considering jobs in the top 2% require little to no physical exertion and women as a whole are fairly well educated. It's almost like their lack of presence in these top paying positions is due to something else they all have in common, like being women. :ohhh:

I wonder what would happen if we added race into the mix because most likely the highest wages are going to white women and men so basically we (black men and women) are complaining that white women are being gypped by their white male counterparts.

Not quite, but it takes black women around 19months to earn as much as their white male counterparts.

I think black women work as a good metric for two reasons. One they're much educated than black men, but they are still black. As a result you are able to remove a lot of the lack of education and ambition arguments people like to throw out. They will be affected by both their race and their gender.


Here are some numbers from a month ago:

This Is How Bad the Wage Gap Is for Black Women

Pay inequity directly touches the lives of black women in at least three distinct ways. Since few black women are among the top 5 percent of earners in this country, they have experienced the relatively slow wage growth that characterizes growing class inequality along with the vast majority of other Americans. But in addition to this class inequality, they also experience lower pay due to gender and race bias.

In the last 37 years, gender wage gaps have unquestionably narrowed—due in part to men’s wages decreasing—while racial wage gaps have gotten worse. Despite the large gender disadvantage faced by all women, black women were near parity with white women in 1979. However in 2016, white women’s wages grew to 76 percent of white men’s, compared to 67 percent for black women relative to white men—a racial difference of 9 percentage points. The trend is going the wrong way—progress is slowing for black women.


Also this:

The repercussions of unequal pay are long lasting and combine with other forms of ongoing discrimination and inequity to contribute to ongoing inequities that affect a woman's housing, education, health, and retirement. Unequal pay makes it harder for Black women to save the money necessary to provide a cushion for emergencies, for the down payment on a house or security deposit for a rental unit, and for higher education. It makes it harder to afford quality child care or to be able to take time off when you are sick or need to care for a loved one. It can mean the difference between going to the doctor or doing without health care.

By almost any measure, Black women are being left behind. The median wealth owned by single Black women is $200, compared to $10,150 for single men. Black women with a Bachelor’s degree have higher college debt–$29,000 on average compared to $20,907 for white men. At the same time Black women with a college degree are typically paid slightly less than white men with only a high school degree.

And it doesn't end there. Black women are also between three and four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. Noise pollution isloudest in black neighborhoods. Schools that serve mostly Black students are more likely than schools that serve mostly white students to be located near a major roadway—exposing those students to dangerous levels of air pollution.

White women are part of the racist structure in this country too not victims to it.
