How much money did you have when you moved into your first place?

$0, I was sleeping on my old roomates cuz floor in college. Then me and my roommate got a crib together, in a year I was moved out and living with my exwife (college g/f)

This was 96 when you could get 2 jobs without trying

I would say have enough to cover at least three months of rent once your all moved in - that way in case something happens (lose a job, roommate bails, etc.) you don't have to stress too much and are able to form some kind of plan on what you want to do. 5K would/should have you plenty safe.

dont they always say to have 6mths worth of money for expenses on standby, just in case? So that if you lose your job tomorrow, you have a couple mths to find another one.

On another note, I still live with my mom, but we have a big house, my older bro & sis moved out. I have over 40k stacked away, $0 debt, car fully paid for. I want to buy, not rent. RE prices here in TO are on the high side. I'll prob buy something once I finish my Bcomm next year and start my real "career".

My aunt said your rent/lease should be half of that you make monthly and you should have at least 3 months of rent and expenses saved aside from your first/last month + security deposit.
