Most of potent and applicable lessons throughout humanity were learned through stories

People think "I never read fiction I only read to learn or better myself" means something profound but the real life case is usually diminishing returns
If that’s what you like to do, good for you. I literally started my statement saying I don’t knock those who do. I’m not reading a story with the hopes of finding the metaphorical lesson when I can read a nonfiction book directly related to that topic I’m seeking to learn.

Books are so much better than (modern) tv and movies at entertaining and not feeling like they're wasting my time

You can say this but it would be dope if you gave some examples of these stories that are more profound and useful in our daily lives than non-fictional books.

I don't view either to be particularly bad but you only have so much freetime and I can understand someone wanting to use that freetime productively.
Breh society as we know it is held together by stories from the Bible :pachaha: The most significant tech inventions of the century, including the phones in our hands and pockets, were inspired by nikkas that read sci fi. I can go on and on

The issue is the way y'all talk about fiction in this passive aggressive way. "I don't view either to be particularly bad" while in the same statement implying that reading fiction is unproductive.

The people that run the world got far more knowledge and inspiration from stories than they did from a self help book that says the same thing the last 30 self help books say.

Imagination is a significant metric of intelligence and there's no better training for imagination than reading fiction

I read about 3 or 4 every month so probably between 36 to 50 every year:ehh: Expands your mind and increases your empathy for different points of view, we seriously underestimate how different each person perceives reality:ohhh:Currently reading The Death of Artemio Cruz, it's about a fictional Mexican Dictator on his death bed reflecting on his life.

But you are. Like I said in my last post nikkas do this "I don't knock those that read fiction but I'd rather do something productive" backhanded compliment shyt:mjlol:

"I'm seeking to learn" because in your opinion nothing productive can be learned from allegory right?

Furthermore

Consuming raw information is fine, but if you're not taking significant notes, curating, and applying this information you're reading it's a wash. This is why I emphasized diminishing returns aspect of heavy non fiction consumption

As curative vehicles go you can't get much better than a story. Our brains remember stories faster and more efficiently than any other form of curated information. Which is why shyt like the bible has been around for millennia.

No I'm using the words you used.

What else could you mean in your statement besides not seeing the value in stories? Saying you're not knocking it doesn't mean your not doing it

If you like reading historical texts that's fine but the pedestalizing of non fiction don't hit like nikkas think it does

Reading is boring as hell to me… :manny:

I read when I need to for work or school but it’s not something I consider fun that I would want to do in my free time.

My statement is as I reiterated already about getting directly to the information of the exact thing I’m inquiring about. Nothing more, nothing less.
