In order to graduate from 6th grade to junior high, we had to memorize and recite the entire Black National Anthem, not just the first stanza, to the principal. I still remember it to this day. Thank you Ms. Jenkins

Went to an Afrocentric elementary school and sung it in place of the cac national anthem everyday at 9AM.

Interesting you only 3yrs older than me . I’m in Chicago & didn’t have that in school.
I’m thinking it was changed at some point in between there
Yeah use to sing it every other morning during elementary school and junior high during the morning announcements.
I used to sing it in the morning in elementary.
Only in the predominately black schools I went to.
The predominately white ones I went ,of course, would sing the Star spangled banner and they would do the pledge of allegiance

Honestly I think Ms. Jenkins is the only reason we did it. She became the principal when I was in 6th grade and made it a requirement.
My hs was 99.99999% Black and in the South so I was taught it in the 9th grade
