I came up at the tail end of that era. I had SNES, my neighbor across the street had Genesis. Playing Street Fighter 2, Streets of Rage and Sonic and Knuckles for the first time
The SNES was the better overall console IMO. It had too many classics.
Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4-6, Super Mario World, Super Mario All-stars, Castlevania 4, Contra 3, Killer Instinct, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, ActRaiser, Turtles in Time, Tetris Attack, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Super Star Wars, Lufia 2, Kirby Super Star, Donkey Kong Country, Zombies ate My Neighbors, Mega man X1-3, the Legend of Zelda, Super Metroid, UN Squadron, Yoshi’s Island, Earthbound, Super Mario Kart and Super Mario RPG

I can admit that Nintendo took an L with the first Mortal Kombat though. (They came correct with 2 and 3 later.)
