When Michael figured out what he wanted to do with Dangerous, he was reaching out to all the hot producers at that time. He wanted the new sounds, the fresh sounds. He called up Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, but they were loyal to Janet and said no. L.A. and Babyface were next. We at least got "Slave to the Rhythm" out of it. Then Michael reached out to Teddy Riley and the rest is history. Originally, Dangerous was going to have a bunch of tracks from Bryan Loren like "Serious Effect" (which easily could have made the album).
