Exactly. So when you’re a Black media outlet, they won’t give you access or they’ll give you access, but place you at the end of the carpet.

It’s like you have to prove to them, why you should be accepted in YOUR own culture which is crazy.

I worked at UMG / Def Jam for 2 years and you could see the Musical Chairs being played by the higher ups. One year, one would go to Roc Nation, or move to Sony, all of the cacs knew each other so it was easy access. I wrote this in another post before, but when they hire black ppl, they’ll usually place them in the “street” team position. There will be a very limited few BM/BW in the office.

The weird thing about this...black women run the culture. What they think is hot dictates where music goes, advertising, etc. Yet virtually every "culture" platform is run by white people with some white guy placed in charge...and they don't hire black women. They barely hire black men.

At one point many sites like that would actively seek out hot artists and help promote the music before a label got involved. Now, Aaron from the label calls up Jayden at Complex and tells him about the new (black) kid they signed from Atlanta and oh btw the deal isn't official so just say he's grinding independently, here's his latest YouTube video put it on the site thanks bro. Complex is so fukking behind it's embarrassing.

Jesus.

all women that have complaints about complex and it is east to see why.
unless youre "in" with the main people I can see why a woman would feel very belittled working there.

a woman I dated worked their for a little bit and didn't enjoy her time there at all either.

and like I said before, outside of a core group which his got smaller nobody stays there for a long time.

This is so true.

I worked for one of these companies.

You could tell there weren't a lot of people who were really of the culture there. I started to understand Dame Dash a lot more after the year I spent working there.

add mass appeal, word @AMcV'88

Yeah that sucked, I hated when they closed the whole digital magazine part

The wild part of that former staff member who revealed was that Sacha Jenkins and Nas voiced concern but Peter Bittender has the main power. Which I guess makes sense given he ran it when they were Deacon and he just re-branded them.

man listen

her boss said mean things to her and she ate some rappers weed cookie

like

we need a 3 page letter for that? am I out of touch? why are all these exposals on twitter rather than in a court? what’s the point? are you suing them? I don’t understand

Yeah...theres a lot to be critical of Complex but this sounded like she wasnt doing her job and ate some other folks stuff.

Thats all always the thing when these fall out exposes happen. Most of them are legit but you'll get a few like this.
