thinking about building my very own PC. Looking at budget of 600-700. I don't need top of the line shyt, just something where I can hook it up to my TV and stream movies and play the occasional games (don't care if maxed out).

would it be possible for this budget?

It's not hard to build a PC for or under 600 bucks.

it's going to be 2013 in 4 months.

Shouldn't building a laptop be just as easy by now?
Have you ever opened a laptop before? So much things are soldered onto the motherboard that its almost pointless. You have a couple of companies still selling laptops with cpu sockets, but thats not common anymore.

I copped a single core laptop years ago and swapped it with a dual core 64-bit cpu...that was fun putting back together.

It's just as easy as legos. Only thing you gotta do before hand is read about the parts and making sure everything will be functional together.

My first build I had issues installing RAM because I put in my cooler block (some of them are huge) in first. Had to remove it and do it all over again :stopitslime:

After that it was pretty fun for me.

Hardly. I ain't one of them benchmarking nikkas that go deep into the shyt.

Only built a PC in the first place to avoid buying an Xbox 360. Other than that my knowledge on that tech shyt is basic.

Geek would be a better term.

PUTTING IT TOGETHER IS EASY AND ANYBODY CAN DO THAT. MATCHING THE PARTS TOGETHER ISN'T AS EASY AND I'D HAVE A GUY WHO KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING LOOK AT YOUR POTENTIAL SPECS BEFORE YOU BUY ALL THE PARTS. IT WILL SAVE YOU SOME TIME AND POSSIBLY MONEY.

BEFORE YOU BUY JUST DROP YOUR PARTS LIST HERE OR SOME OTHER COMPUTER SITE AND YOU'LL GET SOME GUIDANCE.

so i been looking at websites, since i'm in Canada, newegg.com doesn't work for me.

So i've been comparing prices between NCIX and directcanada and NCIX seems to be the cheaper one.

I did a "mock" build by adding parts but i got $580 before taxes and a little over $600 after.

here's what i got:
AMD Phenom II X4 - 99.99
ASRock 970 EXTREME3 - 95
XFX Radeon HD 6870 900MHZ 1GB - 139.99
Corsair 8gb Ram - 39.99
Coolermaster 212+ - 28
1TB Seagate - 70
OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w power supply - 49
zantac case - $50
