93 Million Miles from the Sun
Mars and Earth is about 55,000,000 kilometers apart. Using current technology, it will take about 5-7 months for humans to get there. The problem that the astronauts will face is the constant exposure to solar wind radiation (from the sun) that could cause serious healthy risks.

The Human Race Lost....

We should be traveling at the speed of light by now...........

There isn't enough energy in our entire Solar System to accelerate a craft to 10% of the speed of light, and, due to relativity, we'd NEVER actually reach light speed.

not to jump in this convo but our bodies supposedly wouldnt even be able to take the force of moving at that speed either anyway :manny:

I understand that... but what doc seemed to be stating was that it would be impossible to reach the speed of light, which may be true, I havent the slightest idea. We were able to break the sound barrier :manny:

explain...

Short answer:

The closer an object gets to the speed of light, the more mass it gains until the object's mass is infinite. In order to move an infinite amount of mass you'd need an infinite amount of energy. Since infinite energy doesn't exist, you'll never reach the speed of light.
