Publishing game is so ill man. Make a nikka sign his future away for 100k. 20 years later you still eating off his lyrics and he crying about being broke on some VH1 special.

It all depends on how good your lawyer is

Selling a percentage of your publishing isn't the worst thing if you have a rights reversion clause. Basically they own your pubor a percentage of it for a small period of time and then u get everything back after a specific date. But most rappers don't know what that is unfortunately...

Publishing agents are some of the most powerful ppl in the game. Yachty doesn't get the sprite commercial without signing a pub deal. Most rappers doing commercials for big cooperations is because of their publisher making a call, not the artist. Lady Gaga was a millionare off publishing before her first album came out, just because her publisher looked out and got her placed in major commercials and ad campaigns overseas

The only positive out of this. I see my dude Sean being another visionary in the clothing department. The jacket he got on is dope.

But none of these people you mentioned are struggling financially today...

I wonder why?
:mjpls:

I hate to say it @Sagat but unfortunately a lot of our black artists failed to develop sufficient revenue streams to help them stay afloat once their music isn't popping anymore

Most live off the day to day mechanical royalties which only are dispersed when sales are occurring

Because most never had practical business sense before they got into music anyway and were uneducated especially your blues artists like Bobby Blue Bland whom was only receiving SIX CENTS per double sided singles he sold during his prime :snoop:

And had to spend the bulk of his career on the road to get show money to make ends meet.

Sam Cooke was one of the few he set up not only a publishing company with his good friend and cosinger from his gospel days it was a succesful music imprint as well that held the master recordings to notable artists such as Johnny Taylor and the gospel based Soul Stirrers

It was VERY prolific during its time securing distribution deals from several labels for its artists until Sam Cooke untimely and MYSTERIOUS death

Following his passing the masters as well as publishing and intellectual property were snatched up by his agent

Why do you idiots insist its only rappers that get raped in the music industry? :what: stop projecting

Artists in every genre stunt in their own way and get jerked too. I know some metal cats that got that work from record execs and had the exact same experience in not knowing about financials etc. It happens to everyone. That's dhy they say the MUSIC INDUSTRY is dirty, not just the rap side.
rap is the only genre where it's seemingly accepted to show off getting raped by a 360 deal, it seems practically the culture at this point, that's why we talk about rappers like that like they're the only ones cause they so bombastically visual with it
