So its common knowledge in my circle of friends that I’m oftentimes too loose with intellectual property. Normally I don’t care because my ideas are usually tied to larger loftier societal goals, so if anyone implements them I’m happy.

But I had a recent idea that yielded some pretty good unexpected results. So the momentum has made me really reconsider some other measures to protect my shyt. Especially since there’s some colleagues suddenly tryin to push for collaboration.:wtb:

Ya’ll know a lot of shyt, so spit some knowledge.

How do you pitch an idea to large corporations, entities or production companies without getting your shyt yanked?

Wanna pitch an idea for a Netflix documentary.:patrice:
when you are ready to make that move, i can recommend some pitbull lawyers that would put the fear of allah to anyone who would try.

Get it patented first? Or if it's a concept and not a product, get it published first under your name, as a book or a peer reviewed article

The other thing is don't talk about it when its fully formed and ready to go, i.e. when most of the leg-work, research, preparation etc. is already done and all that's left is the finishing touches before it's released into the world. When it's just an idea in your head I think its OK to talk freely about it, because another person still has to be good enough and motivated enough to do the leg-work and the heavy lifting. Most thieves are too lazy for all that, so you should be OK from that position
Yeah see it will be validated by peer reviewed studies.
It’s crazy b/c I’ve never never been selfish with ideas. Don’t take em seriously until some shyt start poppin off lol!

There's your problem! University thieves are not like regular thieves, they won't be too lazy to do the leg-work if you give them a raw idea. Keep damn quiet around them
Yeah also if a teacher makes it using university resources it belongs to the school which is another problem
I thought I came up with the brilliant idea to make "I survived 2020" shirts.

Turns out nikkas started selling those months ago :aicmon:
that shouldn’t stop you

I think cassidy handled it pretty well.. See 1:00 to 1:40
He told all his biters that they were his sons.. And they should thank his dikk
"How you gonna battle me with a style i made up??"

But really. .. I never worried about it too much

First -I always have a big solo project going
Something thst is just me.. Usually on a topic on no one's radar
And ill just broadcast the finished project without warning
That's to keep my own ( independent) identity out there

I also work in groups.. And insert my ideas when warranted.. Usually on big projects that are monitored.. So people see im "good in a room"

I also get brought in to help projects that are struggling.. Or just a polish to buff up the result.. This is often uncredited and very low-key..But very high stakes

Then i also have an idea bank.. I give those away to people who need something or want a tryout.. See what they do with it
That can be personally satisfying to see little curiosities receiving development that would never happen otherwise

But the balance between solo projects and my main team solidifies my reputation

The helping other teams and freely handing out spare ideas comes later

As for internal recordkeeping, i maintain an ongoing ledger using a composition notebook
Also my electronic files are organized with version histories

But the best defense against biters is being prolific and building a reputation for being a consistent source of worthy ideas
(which you can communicate in a pragmatic manner ,, without putting people on the defensive)

No shade :whoa:

But none of your friends have the means to capitalize on any of your ideas :yeshrug:
:pachaha: Low key this is why I felt so comfortable sharing shyt. But also I’m the type that gets energized by discourse. So it makes me to comfortable with others too, I just be assuming ain’t nobody gon care enough.
But it’s a lil different at the university b/c a lot of these mofos seem so eager to constantly compete and prove themselves.

I'm pretty sure copyright law won't protect your idea but you can register it on the government's website.

Once something is written it is technically copyrighted. In literature, authors pay to get it done but that is just peace of mind.

The best way is to get a patent if it's something where a patent could apply. If not, you can't really protect it cause assuming you are trying to make money off your idea, and assuming it's your business, eventually you will have to promote it. So they will be able to steal it.

Just execute on your idea and if a collaboration makes sense, it makes sense.

If competition comes, welcome it and use it to push you harder, to improve on your idea.
Are there think tanks that just sell business ideas?:patrice:
