So its common knowledge in my circle of friends that I’m oftentimes too loose with intellectual property. Normally I don’t care because my ideas are usually tied to larger loftier societal goals, so if anyone implements them I’m happy.

But I had a recent idea that yielded some pretty good unexpected results. So the momentum has made me really reconsider some other measures to protect my shyt. Especially since there’s some colleagues suddenly tryin to push for collaboration.:wtb:

Ya’ll know a lot of shyt, so spit some knowledge.

How do you pitch an idea to large corporations, entities or production companies without getting your shyt yanked?

Wanna pitch an idea for a Netflix documentary.:patrice:

Write it down in detail dated, then mail it to yourself certified (don’t open it). Then get an attorney.
I would have never thought to do some shyt like this. Lmao!

Today I had a meeting with a department chair at a university who was using coded language to basically tell me an idea I developed was making rounds. I got the lil copyright shyt at the bottom, but yeah I need to tighten up. :wow:
If I see somebody become a millionaire off that shyt, I’d be straight Frank Castle mode.

Get it patented first? Or if it's a concept and not a product, get it published first under your name, as a book or a peer reviewed article

The other thing is don't talk about it when its fully formed and ready to go, i.e. when most of the leg-work, research, preparation etc. is already done and all that's left is the finishing touches before it's released into the world. When it's just an idea in your head I think its OK to talk freely about it, because another person still has to be good enough and motivated enough to do the leg-work and the heavy lifting. Most thieves are too lazy for all that, so you should be OK from that position

The best way is to get a patent if it's something where a patent could apply. If not, you can't really protect it cause assuming you are trying to make money off your idea, and assuming it's your business, eventually you will have to promote it. So they will be able to steal it.

Just execute on your idea and if a collaboration makes sense, it makes sense.

If competition comes, welcome it and use it to push you harder, to improve on your idea.

There's your problem! University thieves are not like regular thieves, they won't be too lazy to do the leg-work if you give them a raw idea. Keep damn quiet around them

For the sake.of having it published having an electronic trail like email can work. If it is seen by a certain amount of people, I think it's less than 5, it is considered a published work. Or at least that's what I learned in media law a decade ago.

No shade :whoa:

But none of your friends have the means to capitalize on any of your ideas :yeshrug:

Problem might be that her friends can :lupe:

Worse is talking reckless at Uni because like a previous poster said, they WILL steal for all the clout :wow:

Trademark if you have any logos in as many classes as you can afford
Copyright by doing what the earlier poster said.
Have a basic prototype somewhere in public or online to show proof you had it first this is also another form of copyright.
Make people sign an nda if they don’t want to sign it then don’t talk to them
The thing is you have to show proof that the person stole your idea so having a paper trial is the most important thing if you decide to share it.

another thing that’s important some people will never steal 100% of your idea because they can’t know every avenue you’re exploring with it
Also some people have the same mindset with their ideas so they won’t remember yours.
