Fear is an abstract noun as it is not something we can touch or see physically. He's chosen to eliminate fear from his mind and vocabulary to allow himself to possess more control over his physical reality. That's not stupid, but brave of him to do so. Respect the man!

I always take calculated risks and only go for an opportunity when I believe I'm capable of succeeding 100%. Failing at something really hurts me to my core; it shatters my soul. I absolutely hate failure. Every time I've failed at something, I've cried like a baby, I've been really upset. But I'm slowly learning that failing is sometimes the stepping stone to success. Yet, I still have fears about going after something that I'm unsure I can obtain. This is greatly limiting my capabilities.

My manager is looking to fill a new position & has personally filled me in on it, and has even printed out the application form for me to fill out. The new salary could literally change my life. I'd be earning x3 what I'm earning right now... BUT, I'm deeply scared. The position comes with so many responsibilities and I like to be lazy. I don't think I'm ready yet. Plus this position is full-time & I enjoy working part-time and sleeping in the afternoons. I've told another colleague about the job position & even though she's less qualified than me, she's applying for it as we speak. I want to apply for it too but I only like to do things when I'm 100% ready. However, this is a great opportunity, and I don't want to miss out on it due to fear.

How do I overcome this? How do I grow some balls? Metaphorically speaking, of course.

I tried to explain to you that fear is abstract. Do you understand what that means?

by realizing you will never completely eliminate it. it will always be there as long as there is insecurity. then you can learn to make peace with it. instead of constantly fighting the demons within, you should befriend them, make peace with them. use logic. "why exactly is fear in me?"keep asking why until you get to the common denominator.

don't try to eliminate fear. fear exists as a survival instinct and it's a necessary element hardwired within you. instead figure out what triggers it and see if it's a "rational" reason. if not, consciously change your perspective and watch fear within you fall back.
