Just have to get out there and do it.
To me it's like the foundation of fitness. If you can't do 20 to 30 push ups (thereabouts) or run a couple of miles without stopping, that should be fixed ASAP. Most people struggle because they don't spend enough time running to learn pacing. If you're a brolic breh with muscle but "iffy" cardio, trying to run 2 miles in 13 minutes will have you .
Mix up outdoor running with treadmill running depending on the weather. Don't look at your watch/phone clock. Time goes by much faster when you aren't looking at the clock. Get inside your own head and just think about anything that makes you happy. Probably best to run a bit slower than you think you need to. A good rule of thumb: once you can run for 30+ minute at a given speed/pace, pick up the pace.
