I have to deal with it often because I work in a salon/boutique. Most of our customers are black. A few men come in for products to give them waves or loose curls. A lot women come in for products like texturizers to hide their tight kinky curls. Many come in saying things like, "I can't wear my hair natural because my hair is nappy/unmanageable". Nothing is wrong with trying different styles(I have natural hair and enjoy different styles) but kinky hair is beautiful. One of the customers today was talking with my coworker about how they have "good hair". I always see adorable black children come in with their parents. Out of all the black kids that have come in my coworker only called two biracial girls beautiful. She always talks about how she has 3C/4A hair definitely not the kinky 4C hair. I get really annoyed but then a part of me feels sorry for them because I know where it comes from.
Lmao nah b ur jus ignoeant if u think colorism isnt in effect in the black community. Some of it is overt, a lot of it aint thoGotta be honestThe worst i have ever heard is "i prefer lightskinned girls" from one of my fellas, and Chicago is a goddamn melting pot in some areas. Until the coli, i would never have known his was a thing, as most people only say shyt like this jokingly.
Im gonna sort this one in the "internet phenomena" file next to ufos and fema camps.
Eh, i have never seen much outside of passing statements irl. I do hear the "good hair" shyt regularly, though. That extra shyt...never really hung around people who said that in my presence, at least. More like people downing themselves rather than expressing preference for other shyt. ButMy sisters weave game be pissing a brotha off.you have no clue

@Lil Gangsta thanks for the neg. I know what I see and that shyt is prevalent.
I didnt say it doesnt effect it, but the most prolific, long winded conversations about this shyt takes place on the net. The more overt stuff isnt even in my sphere of influence, and thats knowing a few affluent blacks as well as many more poor ones, especially where i hang out.Lmao nah b ur jus ignoeant if u think colorism isnt in effect in the black community. well ive seen it from both sides, I get called red and yellow by strange men, ive been asked if i was mixed and referred to as "blackish" by posters on here, but on one side of my family im the darkest one and get treated like i sullied the family genealogy.Closest i have seen is black people wanting to distance themselves from living with other blacks. On one hand, i figure there are neighborhoods full of blacks who have means, motivation, and class, on the other hand, i get it. I couldnt walk through a couple streets near my house wearing British Knights as a kid because of other folks assuming i was banging.
Move away a lil bit, boom, no more hassles, even if its in some weirdo melanin bereft neighborhood. Well, used to be melanin bereft
To be fair though, a lot of issues that should be discussed in the Black community are primarily discussed online, meaning only a small percentage of the Black community are participants, which is also an issue.I didnt say it doesnt effect it, but the most prolific, long winded conversations about this shyt takes place on the net
Matter of fact, i do remember once having an argument with my little sis who was goddamn 12 or so at the time. She black as a mothafukka, amazing complexion before puberty hit her. Our family has some issues with eczema and she would break out in blotches if she was in the sun too much over time.Breh when I first came to TX , all my aunties used to comment on my light skin . That shyt was hella wierd to me. All of them dark skin
I had a friend who said that lighter skin makes a woman more attractive and that the average White woman looks better than the average Black woman. To make it worse, he'd also complain about things related to White supremacy without seeing the irony. I never really addressed it on account of not wanting to be like Furious from Boyz in the Hood at a social gathering and I doubt he'd even understand either. It's unfortunate that many Black people will complain about racism and White supremacy but still perpetuate beliefs that uphold them.
