I have to deal with it often because I work in a salon/boutique. Most of our customers are black. A few men come in for products to give them waves or loose curls. A lot women come in for products like texturizers to hide their tight kinky curls. Many come in saying things like, "I can't wear my hair natural because my hair is nappy/unmanageable". Nothing is wrong with trying different styles(I have natural hair and enjoy different styles) but kinky hair is beautiful. One of the customers today was talking with my coworker about how they have "good hair". I always see adorable black children come in with their parents. Out of all the black kids that have come in my coworker only called two biracial girls beautiful. She always talks about how she has 3C/4A hair definitely not the kinky 4C hair. I get really annoyed but then a part of me feels sorry for them because I know where it comes from.

I had a friend who said that lighter skin makes a woman more attractive and that the average White woman looks better than the average Black woman. To make it worse, he'd also complain about things related to White supremacy without seeing the irony. I never really addressed it on account of not wanting to be like Furious from Boyz in the Hood at a social gathering and I doubt he'd even understand either. It's unfortunate that many Black people will complain about racism and White supremacy but still perpetuate beliefs that uphold them.

Closest i have seen is black people wanting to distance themselves from living with other blacks. On one hand, i figure there are neighborhoods full of blacks who have means, motivation, and class, on the other hand, i get it. I couldnt walk through a couple streets near my house wearing British Knights as a kid because of other folks assuming i was banging.

Move away a lil bit, boom, no more hassles, even if its in some weirdo melanin bereft neighborhood. Well, used to be melanin bereft
