How do they decide the NBA All Star sites?

I doubt they bid for it like the Superbowl since most cities would rather not deal with the fukkery that tends to come with it.

Im curious because Miami hasnt had one in forever. Miami only had one All Star game in Miami and thas because we were n expansion team at the time and those 3 years (90, 91, 92) the NBA awarded the All Star to the 3 expansion teams (MIA, CHA, ORL) respectively.

Since then I think Orlando and Hornets and Houston have hosted twice each with the Hornets getting a third in 2014

The Boat Show is always the same weekend the all star game. The Boat show uses allot of the venues the all star game would need, plus hotels. Boat show brings in mega bucks, you would think they could nice the game up or back a week but :manny:

Of course the ATL
Newer stadiums usually get rewarded with an All Star game within a few years of opening. They also might host it in a city that needs the money an All Star game brings (New Orleans) or is a sentimental destination (MSG in 98).

They also look to see if a city has the infastructure (hotels, highways, etc) to accomodate it & whether or not its a good look to have it there. That's why you probably wont see ATL or Las Vegas host a AS Game again anytime soon

Miami's infrastructure is pretty good and our arena is technically brand-new since it's been only about 12 years.

Yeah, Stern openly admits he rewards teams that build new arenas so that's a major factor in selecting. I don't understand the overall process either. I get Stern was trying his best to sell the Hornets so he probably promised an All Star hosting as part of the sales pitch which makes sense, but that doesn't explain cities like Orlando and Houston getting it twice within a 10 year period.

Chicago, IL
Dunno much about Houston but isn't it fairly spread out? Is the stadium area good? I just picture it as big with everything at least a car ride away.

Chicago won't ever get one unless they get a new stadium or renovate the current area to nice standards.
