It's not a bad league. It's not a great league either. Some young talent. Some old talent. If I wanna watch the best I just watch one of the big Euro games. It's local to me. Something I can take my son and his friends to. They have fun. Games in Seattle are almost always exciting.

With all that said it's ran poorly in the sense that it's 100% about making money. They don't truly care about making a product that is fun to watch. Appletv doesn't help.

Im gonna play Devils Advocate on this for conversation sake (mainly about soccer in general):

So people say that MLS is lower soccer then European soccer in quality (and we can agree overall that is true), mainly due to the finishing touch in the final 3rd of the field. However, if the talent is that much better in European leagues, then why are their games also 0-0 and 1-0? Shouldnt those forwards be better and able to score more goals on a consistant basis?

LA vs. New York in the finals and the ratings still collapsed that badly :picard:

Soccer stans still waiting for this sport to pop off in America on some “look out for Detox” shyt. :pachaha:
It doesn’t help that the game was on Apple TV and on at the same time as the SEC championship game. The Apple TV thing has been a disaster.

I don't watch MLS regularly and barely ever, BUT I have been to some TFC games and it's really fun

The atmosphere is great and it's easy to get swept into being a supporter

If your hometown team is good, I can totally understand how ppl become regular fans

That's what I'm saying. Go to any European country and get away from the top league and the level of play is decent at best and those towns and fans love their teams as if they are the best in the world. They know in some cases how poor their team is, but it's about local town pride or they've been born into fandom based on family.

I take my kids to the new local USL II team because it's cheap. Easy to get tickets and sit right up front. The level of play isn't great, but still fun to be part of something that is local and has ties to the community.

That is not a valid excuse.

It wasn't the 1st time it was on at the same time as the SEC Championship. League has dropped the ball with this Apple contract.

MLS is poorer in every aspect, and not just "mainly due to the finishing touch in the final 3rd". It is poorer all around.

Quality in europe is better across the field - better forwards, better midfielders, better defenders, better coaches/managers, better and more refined tactics and systems, better athleticism etc. The technical floor of some players in Europe is higher than the technical ceiling of a substantial amount of players in the MLS.

The forwards in Europe are facing some of the best defenders around - and that serves as an equalizer. Soccer is also often a sport of patience - poorer teams often set up in a defensive manner to frustrate their (better) opposition, which then turns it into a game of perseverance/resilience with a team prodding and probing to create an opening while the other soaks as much pressure as possible. Despite how that sounds, it can be an enjoyable affair if the quality at a basic technical level is good enough - in the MLS that's often not the case with players misplacing easy passes or fukking up simple actions.

Premier league winner in 23/24 - averaged +2.5 goals per game
La Liga winner in 23/24 - averaged +2.2 goals per game

I mean it's probably not even a Top 10 League in the world, would be like watching the Mexican basketball league or something. It's gonna be shyt but I've been to a few LAFC games and the atmosphere is fun
They're top 10 easily. Most have MLS ranked 8th or 9th worldwide. You have to also bare in mind that these other leagues damn near have the entire country to themselves. They don't have to deal with competition for eyeballs and dollars from powerhouse entities like the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, College Football, etc.

I'm not mad at that list, but even then being the 8th or 9th best league in the world means you're not getting top notch play or talent so if you're watching looking for quality on par with a Big 5 match you'll be very disappointed

Man, 80% of the team's in Europe don't get the top players. There's no salary cap out there so all the stars go to 6-8 super rich clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Paris, etc. It's basically ten LA Dodger type clubs and everybody else. It's not just a MLS thing
